- I figured with as many net.connected people that were at Philcon this
- weekend, *someone* would have posted by now. But since they haven't I may as
- well go first.
- I got to Philcon this time later than normal becuase of work and
- traffic problems. I got to the Holiday Inn around 7 PM and saw Ken Sample for
- about 10 seconds at the front desk before I went up to my room to settle in.
- After walking across to the Adam's Mark, I found out where the furry
- party would be (Friday night was an informal one) and finally ran into somone I
- knew at the evelator on the way up--Peter "Speet" Stoller. Also on the way to
- the Elevator I met Tom Pluck, so the three of us made our way up to the furry
- party room.
- We were greeted at the door with Jim Groat firing a toy gun that made
- electoric sounds, Speet returned fire with my toy "disc" gun (The kind sold as
- 'Star Trek' phasers in the early-mid 1970s). Inside I met the usual crowd (Ray
- Rooney, Kevin Caroll, Jed Martinez, The Alston Brothers, Andrew Greene, and
- others). The put something on that can best be described as "The Muppet Show"
- on LSD. Jim Groat and others show each other their manly firearms, both toy
- and real, and a little bit of comics and fanzines got passed around. The
- unexpected favorite was "The Dysfunctional Family Circus" which was Family
- Circus cartoons with new captions.
- Later on that evening the FurryMuck crowd arrived, this led to
- something I consider one of the most surreal events of the con. Jimmy Chin sat
- down in a chair and relaxed, suddenly there was a large crowd around his chair,
- they were showing him fanzines, blank pages to draw on, and miscellaneous
- stuff. He honestly looked usure whehter to enjoy or freak out from all the
- attention. Afterwards, I got him alone for a bit (tough thing to do), got a
- sketch and suggested next time he get a pinky ring for people to kiss.
- SInce I had been up at 5 AM that morning, I went back to Sleep at the
- Holiday Inn. Alll but one person backed out of sharing the room, so I got a
- bed to myself. I talked with Tom Pluck (who I shared the room with) about some
- things and then fell asleep
-
- NEXT: Saturday
