- If you were performing that synthesis for real you would distill your
- solvents over calcium hydride or even sodium metal to make sure they
- were anhydrous. But even so, ethers are not that bad if you're careful.
- I used to go through at least a gallon of THF a week when I was doing
- chromatography. But then, that's exactly what you want to do, rather
- than have it sitting around for too long. Never store ethers in bottles
- with ground glass fittings!
