  34. There were so many cases of UNPROFOR vehicles caught either
  35. smuggling spies - Serbian officers or ammunition to Yugoslav
  36. army, that Canadians who were part of the UNPROFOR are hated by
  37. the inhabitants of Sarajevo. Usually they do not even bother to
  38. answer when allegations with proof were put by the government of
  39. Bosnia. Or they gave stupid explanations. When chetnik officer
  40. Kovacevic was caught with the Colonel ! Gary, they said Chetnik
  41. tricked the poor UNPROFOR Colonel.

  43. It is interesting how the international media coverage is
  44. working. They never said a word about this UNPROFOR role in
  45. Bosnia.

  47. The most logical question is - why they are doing these? Why
  48. helping one side in the conflict, and that is the side who is
  49. condemned as the aggressor by whole world? I can find out two
  50. explanations. They are professional soldiers and there is a
  51. certain solidarity among soldiers. In Bosnia, they feel much
  52. closer to the professional soldiers from the Yugoslav People's
  53. Army then to Bosnian civilians fighting to defend their homes.
  54. Bosnians are not professionals and I can understand that they
  55. annoy UNPROFOR. They feel much better with their own kind,
  56. Yugoslav People's Army. It is a certain professional solidarity
  57. well known from other professions. The only problem is that it's
  58. killing people.

  60. They are getting different services (not necessarily money). As
  61. one of the UNPROFOR soldiers was caught smuggling gasoline, he
  62. stated that the night before Yugoslav army soldiers invited them
  63. to the great party, and he was obliged to return them the
  64. thoughtfulness.

  66. UNPROFOR Headquarters are in Belgrade which is making them even
  67. more cooperative. So actions are coordinated between UNPROFOR and
  68. YPA all the time, on all levels.

  70. It is very interesting that we incline to distrust national armed
  71. forces, but show no doubt in United Nations one. There is a
  72. certain naivety in it. I hope that the wrongdoing of UNPROFOR
  73. forces in ex-Yugoslavia can show us that these armed forces
  74. should be even less trusted as the national one.
