- Any discussion of climate chage leads, like a single thread
- of a tapestry, to the bigger environmental picture: fossil fuel
- depletion, overpopulation, third world debt, the arms race, and
- ultimately, spiritual and philosophic values. PROPHETS AND LOSS
- features a rage of the world's most informed and profound think-
- ers on the environmental crisis and the path to a viable future:
- Carl Sagan, Paul Ehrlich, Rep. Claudine Schneider, Chief Oren
- Lyons, Soviet Physicist Roald Sagdeev, Kenyan Professor Richard
- Oding, UN Director of Development Mostafa Tolba, Egyptian Devel-
- opment Consultant Nadia Atif, and Australian Conservationist Bill
- Hare. With introductory comments by actor-environmentalist
- Robert Redford, these thinkers take an uncompromising look at the
- enormous, interlinked dangers we face as a human community and
- propose the changes that must be made if we are to survive.
- Extraordinary visuals by Godfrey Reggio ("Koyaaniqatsi") add drama
- and urgency to this production, which originally aired to resound-
- ing popular response on the BBC. (Inquire regarding shorter
- version.) **Screened at 1991 Environmental Film Festival.

- Produced by Zero Population Growth, Inc, and
- Southern Illinois University
-
- >VHS Sale $29.95
-
- The world's population has increased fourfold since 1900.
- If current growth rates continue, it will double again before
- the year 2030. Yet, the earth's resources are finite and we are
- already testing its limits. WORLD POPULATION is an excellent
- discussion starter on the population issue. This short program
- presents a powerful graphic simulation of human population
- growth. As the years roll by on a digital clock, dots appear
- on a world map representing millions of people added to the
- population. References to historic events also appear, helping
- place population changes in context.
- This program is a striking depiction of actual population
- growth from 1 A.D. to the present and of projecterd future
- growth to the year 2020. The visual presentation makes
- statistical information exciting and easily understood.

- Concerned about the environmental crisis, 12 high school
- students decided to make a video that would inspire other
- young people to save the planet. The students worked on the
- project for an entire school year, interviewing hundreds of
- children ages 4-18. They asked questions about pollution,
- global warming, ozone destruction, and most importantly,
- can young people make a difference? This unique, hopeful
- video has had an international impact. The student video-
- graphers presented the program to the United Nations staff
- in Geneva. As a result, an international Environmental
- Youth Conference was named after the video, and the students

-
- >VHS Sale $39.95, Rent $30.
-
- World-renowned philosopher, scientist, and author Peter
- Russell presents an empowering and optimistic vision of
- humanity's potential. The central notion of this video is
- that as a species we are at a critical choice point: Will we
- devote ourselves to the continued evolution of life on earth?
- Or will we persist in our self-centered and ultimately
- destructive behavior? Drawing from scientific, sociological,
- and historical research, Russell outlines the possibilities
- for humanity to use its combined intelligence in a positive
- way as a "global brain." This captivating program is being
- used widely and has earned the praise of educators in the
- U.S., Canada, and Scandinavia.
