- OZONE, OLYMPICS AND POLITICS
- The Australian division of the environmental organization
- Greenpeace has dismissed suggestions that Sydney's bid to host the
- Olympics in the year 2000 could be affected by the hole in the
- southern hemisphere's ozone layer. The response came after a German
- journalists questioned Australia's Olympic officials in Barcelona
- about the dangers to athletes of ultra-violet radiation.

- Greenpeace said the ozone layer hole is becoming increasingly
- severe in the Melbourne hemisphere and will affect the whole
- planet.

- A Greenpeace spokesperson noted that Berlin was competing against
- Sydney to host the Olympics and expressed regret that the serious
