- It's renovation time on the old rsoft network and I'm looking for ways to
- increase drive performace.
-
- Currently we run two 660 meg ESDI drives on an ultrastor controller and two 1
- gig SCSI drives on an adaptec, the theory being that both controllers can
- operate at once and throughput will be higher as a result. Recent versions of
- SCO Unix support "Scatter/Gather" which I understand to mean one controller can
- issue requests to multiple drives at once, then wait for the answers back in
- whichever order they arrive.
-
- Given this, is there still any benefit to the two controller approach?
-
- The machine in question is an ISA bus 486-33. I'd really like to hear from
- people that have made the ISA-->EISA move: How much difference does it make in
- real world situations?
-
- Finally, now that SCO supports a wider variety od SCSI controllers, should I
- stick with my Adaptecs or is there a better choice now?
-
- Frank.
