- If you install getty (not uugetty) on a ttyFMxx FAS device, how can
- it loop? getty sleeps until DCD is asserted, and therefore can't
- echo any characters back to the modem in this state. One reason could
- be that your modem always sets DCD to high level. This is a configuration
- error. Set up the modem so that DCD follows the modem carrier. Then it
- should work.

- On the other hand, it is always a good idea to disable echos and result
- codes in a modem that waits for a dialin. The default settings of the
- modem after a reset should be `E0Q1'.

- Again, if the modem is properly set up and you start getty on a ttyFMxx
- device with the default minor device number it should work. I know that
- it does for hundrets of other people.
