  14. I am at a loss...  our 520 Powerstation running AIX 3.2 seems to go to sleep  
  15. every now and then!  If it's been a while (say, 3 hours or more) since the  
  16. machine has been accessed in any way (either throught console login or  
  17. otherwise) it becomes difficult to gain entry to the machine.  Only the console  
  18. entry seems unfazed.  We are running XDM on the machine.

  20. Sometimes, if I'm not near the machine and can't provide the swift console  
  21. kick, I telnet to a machine that happens to be on the same subnet (important?)  
  22. and then telnet to the rs6000.  I usually receive a response at that point.   
  23. Only then can I telnet from elsewhere.

  25. The same thing happens with xdm - if I can't get a prompt using Hummingbird's  
  26. eXceed from my pc, I telnet to the machine that's on the same subnet and "wake"  
  27. up the rs6000.  The xdm login then comes up without a hitch.

  29. Anyone else experience this odd behaviour?  I'm rather new to the system, but  
  30. I've tried every option I could find in SMIT and using SRC Master (sp?).  Once  
  31. entry is gained, there is absolutely no problem with the machine (other than  
  32. mail, which I have not bothered with yet).  It's just kind of embarrassing for  
  33. people to call me and tell me the machine is down, while I quickly go around  
  34. the proverbial elbow to get it started again.  I haven't bothered compiling  
  35. statistics on this; sorry for the vagueness.
