- According to my "Sun-3/80 Main Memory Expansion Module Installation
- Manaul" you shouldn't have to change any jumpers when you install
- more memory. If the SIMMs are the same as the ones that was sitting
- in the machine then it should work...
-
- Btw, I just noticed that a 3/80 can take a standard 3.5", 1.44MB
- drive. Atleast I can't see any difference between the one that has
- one install (by Sun) and our four other 3/80's.
-
- Below are included some information I received when I asked about
- installing 4MB SIMMs in a 3/80. Imaging a 3/80 with 64MB RAM.. :-)

- The answer seems to be that if you have ROM revision 3.0.2 or higher, you
- can do this, otherwise not.
-
- I haven't verified this from experience.

- According to someone I know:
-
- If the MB is part #501-1650, it can use 4Mbyte SIMMs.
- PArt #501-1401 only if it's rev 3.1 or higher. (or is that 3.3...)

- Yes, under certain conditions it's possible to install 4 meg SIMMs in 3/80s:
- you need to have Boot PROM Rev. 3.0.1 or later. The 4 meg SIMMs must come
- first. Please note, that this is not a supported Setup by Sun Micro; they
- say: don't do it. I've seen that it did'nt work with Boot PROM 3.0.2 - so
- you're on your own.
