- Since I've received so many responses to my posting about Omni Group's
- font software, I thought I'd just post/mail a summary response.
-
- Schedule:
- None. We have made a good deal of progress, but there is no way to know
- when, or even *if*, we will release. So if this doesn't happen, don't be
- surprised in the least. If you need something right now, don't wait.
-
- Price:
- Even less firm than the schedule.
-
- Compatibility:
- Right now it can parse all the Type1 fonts (excluding Ohlfs, since it
- simply is a 'link' to Courier) in /NextDeveloper/Fonts and all the Type1
- fonts from Fontographer that I have. The oldest version of FG which was
- sampled for conversion was 3.1. We handle various nasties that FG
- performs on its output, such as producing illegal encoding vectors
- (according to the Black Book), using \r instead of \n for newline, and
- telling lies about how many character strings are present.
-
- Nothing has been done with TrueType or MS-DOS PS-fonts, although it
- sounds likely.
-
- Type3 support will probably be limited since the parsing difficulties
- would be very large. Type1 is better any way.
-
- Features (current and future):
- Type1 generation from bitmaps or user provided outlines
- Adjustable coarseness of bitmap->outline conversion
- Conversion from various non-NeXT formats to NeXT format
- Snap grid
- Auto hinting
- Subroutine optimization
- - anything else you would like to see? let me know -
-
- Beta Testing:
- ... will be arranged when we have a schedule. If you've already
- requested to be a beta, we'll let you know when that is.
