- I'm having problems with installing a second physical
- SCSI disk drive. My system is currently the following:
- 386/25, AMI BIOS
- Seagate ST-02 controller + ST296N SCSI drive
- + 5.25" + 3.5"
-
- I've been trying to add a second SCSI drive without
- any mentionable success. I've got two different drives
- to try, but neither one of them isn't found by
- the SCSI controller.
-
- My original ST296N drive is installed at the end of the
- SCSI cable with the terminal resistors and SCSI-Id set to 0.
-
- The first drive I tried was a Quantum Prodrive 40S.
- I unplugged the terminal resistors, set the SCSI-Id into 1,
- and shorted the parity jumper on the drive. The motor of
- the drive is jumpered so, that it starts automatically at
- power-on.
-
- With this installation, only my original drive is found.
- At power-up, I can see the LEDs of (in this order)
- drive A (5.25"), B (3.5"), C (ST296N) and finally the
- Qunatum drive to flash. Both of the hard drives start
- their motors ok. But, after the Banner
- "Seagate SCSI BIOS ..."
- There is the announcement: "1 SCSI drive found".
-
- With the second drive (NEC D3841), terminal resistors
- unplugged (with a DIP-switch) and configuration as above,
- there's only one (major) difference. Neither one of the
- drives is found. As above, the Id numbers are set ok.
-
- I even tried single-drive installations with the original
- ST296N drive unplugged. There was no luck in this either.
- The message was simply "No SCSI drives found".
- And yes, I did have the terminal resistors switched on
- in this experiment.
-
- What could I be missing here ?
-
- Or is the ST-02 controller so stupid (Yeah, I know, I should
- get a decent one), that it can only control Seagate Paired
- Program drives ?
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Sami
