  14. I would like to know what exactly the effects of mounting a file system
  15. on a non-empty directory.   For example:

  17. I have a directory /diska with the contents of

  20. -rw-r-----   1 root     sys           73 Jul 29 11:12 file1
  21. -rw-r-----   1 root     sys           81 Jul 29 11:12 file2
  22. -rw-r-----   1 root     sys         1829 Jul 29 11:12 file3

  24. Then I want to place an entry in /etc/checklist to have a filesystem
  25. mount a /diska.  I know that the above files will disappear and the
  26. new mounted filesystem will take their place.  But, does this have
  27. any side effects?  Such as can it corrupt either file system?  Can it cause
  28. a system panic?
