- OK. The HD Floppy thread refuses to die...
-
- About six months ago my friend bought a second internal floppy for his A3000
- through the local dealer - cost about A$160. When I heard about the new
- HD floppy drives we checked his out and found that it did indeed support HD
- disks. Now with advent of Amax 2.5 with support for Mac HD disks I decided
- that I would have to get one of these drives. I got the part number of my
- friends disk drive and contacted the local dealer and asked them to get a
- price. They came back and said that Commodore said something like
- "We know what you are up to asking for a FD-357 and you can't have one"
- although two days later someone else from the dealer called to say that
- Commodore claimed that an FD-357 was a PC disk drive and $190.
-
- After all this I decided that the Commodore drive can't be too different from
- the normal PC drive so I bought a 1.44MB 3.5 from a local pc parts dealer
- (A$76!!). I had to solder in an extra wire to get the disk change line to
- work properly. I have not been able to get the Amiga to recognise the drive
- as a HD drive. I see from the include files that trackdisk.device is capable
- of recognising a "3.5 inch 150 RPM" drive. Does anyone know what signals the
- Commodore drive sets to indicate a HD drive/disk or should I just go back to
- trying to get a drive from Commodore?
-
- Regards,
-
