  19. I have had satisfactory results with both USR and Telebit modems.
  20. However, I have to say that my impression of the USRobotics World Port
  21. is 100% negative. I bought one at Fry's when they were out of stock on
  22. QBlazers. It flat out did not work. When it called out and the other
  23. end answered, it acted as though it was deaf. It would not respond in
  24. any way. No register setting combinations would correct it. So I took
  25. it back. The second one had a different problem. It would dial out for
  26. about five minutes after it was turned on and then it would no longer
  27. tone dial. You had to turn it off for several minutes and then turn it
  28. back on (and you would get a few minutes of dialing before it died
  29. again).

  31. So back to Fry's again. The third one had the characteristic of
  32. reverting to some factory defaults while just sitting there and the
  33. power on. No reset was necessary; it just suddenly adopted the
  34. defaults. The major problem here was that it would no longer
  35. autoanswer.

  37. After three duds, I finally came to the conclusion that the World Port was
  38. junk. I have since bought three Sportsters (v.32) and four QBlazers.
  39. All have been just fine.
