- I have had satisfactory results with both USR and Telebit modems.
- However, I have to say that my impression of the USRobotics World Port
- is 100% negative. I bought one at Fry's when they were out of stock on
- QBlazers. It flat out did not work. When it called out and the other
- end answered, it acted as though it was deaf. It would not respond in
- any way. No register setting combinations would correct it. So I took
- it back. The second one had a different problem. It would dial out for
- about five minutes after it was turned on and then it would no longer
- tone dial. You had to turn it off for several minutes and then turn it
- back on (and you would get a few minutes of dialing before it died
- again).
-
- So back to Fry's again. The third one had the characteristic of
- reverting to some factory defaults while just sitting there and the
- power on. No reset was necessary; it just suddenly adopted the
- defaults. The major problem here was that it would no longer
- autoanswer.
-
- After three duds, I finally came to the conclusion that the World Port was
- junk. I have since bought three Sportsters (v.32) and four QBlazers.
- All have been just fine.
