  23.   This paper deals with the dynamic regulation of the
  24.   level of replication in distributed systems, and leads to the introduction
  25.   of replication-heuristics therefore.
  26.   The question of which replica of an object should be referenced 
  27.   by operations when several copies are
  28.   provided at different remote sites in the net is also addressed.
  29.   Polling-algorithms performing
  30.   this choice will also be presented. Replication-heuristics and
  31.   polling-algorithms are an important research field in distributed,
  32.   replicating systems but not adequately treated yet. The purpose of 
  33.   this work is to present possible solutions for these two problems 
  34.   and to suggest how the
  35.   area should further be studied. As an important application of
  36.   replication-heuristics and polling-algorithms, a replicating file
  37.   transfer protocol (RFTP) is proposed.
