- NEC Electronics to support Synopsys' VHDL simulator
-
- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. June 1, 1992 Synopsys Inc. today announced
- an agreement whereby NEC Electronics Inc. will develop and support
- certified VHDL macrocell libraries for Synopsys' VHDL System Simulator.
- The two companies will develop and support an interface from Synopsys'
- simulator to the OpenCAD( Design System, NEC's non-proprietary ASIC
- design environment.
-
- NEC and Synopsys are working together to develop full timing and back-
- annotation support which will enable VHDL designers to specify and
- validate ASIC-based systems, synthesize to NEC technology, and evaluate
- functionality and performance within the Synopsys design environment.
- The companies currently anticipate the support will be available in
- a beta release in September, 1992, and in production in January, 1993.
- NEC's CB-C7 0.85 CMOS standard cell-based technology, the focus of current
- development efforts, is ideal for implementing an entire system on a chip,
- as it offers 8088- and 8086-compatible central processing units (CPUs),
- microcontrollers, and a variety of microprocessor peripheral functions.
-
- Synopsys' VHDL System Simulator provides full support for IEEE-1076
- VHDL, automatic VHDL library generation, and tight integration with
- Synopsys' leading synthesis and test tools.
-
- "The support of NEC technology on Synopsys' VHDL System Simulator makes
- it more efficient for our customers to develop systems using VHDL,"
- said Brent Dichter, strategic marketing manager at NEC Electronics.
- "A clear path to silicon from VHDL will enable more systems designers
- to take advantage of NEC ASIC technology."
-
- The agreement reflects the growing support for Synopsys' VHDL capability
- in the U.S. market. "NEC's early endorsement and development of a VHDL
- design flow has positioned them as a leader in VHDL," said Jan Anderson,
- ASIC program manager for Synopsys. "By adopting Synopsys' leading VHDL
- synthesis and simulation environment, NEC will support the full power
- of VHDL, which enables designers to create and debug electronic systems
- at the behavioral, RTL, and gate levels."
