- Mark Szuchman describes a tortuous path of conversion from MS-Word for
- the Mac to NB format via Mac WordPerfect and WP5.1 for DOS (using Word
- for Word). He doesn't say which version of WFW he's using.
-
- I have WFW 5.0, which includes Mac MS-Word as one format. In theory,
- you should be able to save your Mac document to a DOS disk (either
- using Apple File Exchange under System 6.x or directly under System 7)
- and then convert from Mac MS-Word directly to XyWrite III+ format.
- Or you could save the Mac MS-Word file as a DOS MS-Word file, and
- convert this to XyWrite III+.
-
- In practice, I'm less confident that this will go entirely without a
- hitch. Most of my recent problems have had to do with Apple File
- Exchange glitches or with problems we're having getting System 7
- deployed on a Novell network, so I can't say what part WFW might play.
- Most of my experience using WFW 5.0 has been pretty good, and that
- includes Mac WP, WP5.1, and XyWrite files. Software Bridge, as Mark
- testifies, is an excellent product, but switching from WFW (if you
- already have it) would be costly and probably unnecessary.
-
- For those interested in Windows applications: WFW 5.1, an upgrade
- I have not yet ordered, adds 4 Windows word processor formats:
-
- Ami Pro 2.0
- MS Windows Write 3.0
- MS Word for Windows 1.x, 2.0
- WordPerfect for Windows 5.1
-
- and also these DOS formats:
-
- Excel PC 3.0
- Signature 1.0
- WordStar 7.0
-
- If you're already a MS-Word for Windows user, there's a cheaper route
- than the $70-80 street price for the full WFW (which may include far
- more obscure formats than you'll ever need). A number of discount
- houses are listing "Word for Word for Windows," which is a limited
- version of WFW to use with MS-Word for Windows, for $38-45. This
- version does include several Windows word processors, as well as
- WordPerfect 5.1 and XyWrite III+ and a few more--probably all most of
- us would need.
