-------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
Installation of OS/2 Warp Connect networking components onto a
preloaded ThinkPad typically ends with an error SYS3175.
RESOLUTION
After receiving the SYS3175, you must shut down and restart your system.
Unless you have archived the preloaded Desktop, the only available
choice is to return to the OS/2 Warp archive that does not have any of
the ThinkPad add-ons (Diskette Factory, Mwave, and other ThinkPad
exploitive drivers). This is the archive that is available in the
default location of X:\OS2\ARCHIVES (where X: is the drive that has
OS/2 installed).
To recover to the unit's original state, perform the following steps IF
the system has NOT been reformatted.
1. Shut down and restart the system. Press Alt+F1 to get to the
recovery choices. If you have archived the preloaded Desktop, select
this archive and you're done. If you have not archived the preload,
the only option is to recover to the base OS/2 installation archive.
2. When restarted, the system comes to a Desktop that has none of the
ThinkPad add-ons (Mwave, Diskette Factory, etc.).
3. Click with the right mouse button on the Desktop to bring up the menu
and select Settings to open the Settings notebook. Select the
Archives tab. In the Archive locations window, it will have
C:\OS2\ARCHIVES (the default). Change this to C:\AR and close the
Settings notebook.
4. Shut down and restart the system. When restarting, press Alt+F1 for
the recovery choices and select the Available archive.
5) This returns you to the original, preloaded software with all of the
ThinkPad add-ons, as it came from the factory.
Note: In the normal OS/2 Warp Connect directory structure, the X:\AR
subdirectory does not exist. This directory is unique to the
preloaded software.
