  1. OSINOFER - OPEN FILE ERRORS DURING FIRST PHASE OF INSTALLATION

  4. Open File Errors during First Phase of Installation

  10. DESCRIPTION
  11.  
  12. During the first phase of installation, a message states that "an error 
  13. occurred when system installation tried to open a file" and the system 
  14. locks up. The error log points to unpack problems.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. 1. Insert the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette in drive A: and the
  19.     OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive; restart the system.
  20.  
  21. 2. Insert Diskettes 1 and 2 when prompted. 
  22.  
  23. 3. At the Easy/Advanced screen, press F3 to escape to a command prompt.
  24.  
  25. 4. Change to the drive where you are trying to install OS/2.
  26.  
  27. 5. Type DIR *.CHK, then press Enter. 
  28.  
  29.    If any .CHK files exist, type DEL *.CHK, then press Enter.
  30.  
  31. 6. Change to the CD-ROM drive.
  32.  
  33. 7. Type CD \OS2IMAGE\DISK_3, then press Enter. (This is the location of 
  34.    the CHKDSK command.)
  35.  
  36. 8. Type CHKDSK C: /F, then press Enter (where C: is the OS/2 drive).
  37.    Repeat this command until no error messages occur.
  38.  
  39. 9. Type CD \OS2IMAGE\DISK_2, then press Enter.
  40.  
  41. 10. Type EXIT, then press Enter, to restart the installation.
