=======================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
--------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
During the first phase of installation, a message states that "an error
occurred when system installation tried to open a file" and the system
locks up. The error log points to unpack problems.
RESOLUTION
1. Insert the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette in drive A: and the
OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive; restart the system.
2. Insert Diskettes 1 and 2 when prompted.
3. At the Easy/Advanced screen, press F3 to escape to a command prompt.
4. Change to the drive where you are trying to install OS/2.
5. Type DIR *.CHK, then press Enter.
If any .CHK files exist, type DEL *.CHK, then press Enter.
6. Change to the CD-ROM drive.
7. Type CD \OS2IMAGE\DISK_3, then press Enter. (This is the location of
the CHKDSK command.)
8. Type CHKDSK C: /F, then press Enter (where C: is the OS/2 drive).
Repeat this command until no error messages occur.
9. Type CD \OS2IMAGE\DISK_2, then press Enter.
10. Type EXIT, then press Enter, to restart the installation.
