  13. DESCRIPTION
  14.  
  15. When installing OS/2, using Boot Manager, on an IBM PS/2 8595 with a 
  16. 90 MHz Pentium processor, the installation proceeds without problem 
  17. until the first reboot, when the following error message appears:
  18.  
  19.     Drive 1 is not ready. System is Halted.
  20.  
  21. If you do not use Boot Manager, the install completes successfully, and 
  22. OS/2 is fully functional. 
  23.  
  24. All SCSI drive and SCSI adapter diagnostics complete with no errors 
  25. found.
  26.  
  27. The following modifications to the system DO NOT resolve the problem:
  28.  
  29. * Changing startup sequence settings (configurable via reference
  30.   diskette or reference partition).  
  31.  
  32. * Installing Boot Manager at the beginning of free space or at the
  33.   end of free space.  
  34.  
  35. * Removing all other SCSI devices; leaving the hard drive controller and
  36.   SCSI disk drive id 6 (the startup drive) as the only SCSI devices
  37.   configured.

  39. RESOLUTION
  40.  
  41. The BIOS level that ships with the 90 MHz Pentium processor complex on 
  42. a PS/2 model 8595 is version 3 (as displayed during startup: IBM
  43. SurePath(TM) BIOS - Revision level 03). Upgrading the system BIOS 
  44. (Flash BIOS) to Revision level 05 solves the problem.  Please
  45. check with the IBM PC Company for the latest BIOS version available and 
  46. where to obtain it. After the BIOS update the system is then able to 
  47. use Boot Manager with no problem.
