  49. I. OVERVIEW OF THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER
  50.    -------------------------------------
  51.  
  52. This version of the LEXIJET device driver should be used for best
  53. operation of the:
  54.  
  55.      Lexmark 5000 Color Jetprinter
  56.      Lexmark 5700 Color Jetprinter
  57.  
  58. This driver is for use with IBM OS/2 versions 2.1 and higher ONLY.  It
  59. supports all cartridges, graphic resolutions, and paper sources available.
  60.  
  61. II. PREPARING THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER
  62.     -----------------------------------
  63.  
  64. When you executed the self-extracting file, CJOS57LE.EXE, the following 8 files
  65. were created:
  66.  
  67.            README.1ST   This file.
  68.  
  69.            LEXIJET.DRV  The Presentation Manager printer driver files that support
  70.            HBPFC2.DLL   PM and non-PM applications.
  71.            HBPCS1.DLL
  72.            HBPDB1.DLL
  73.  
  74.            LEXIJET.HLP  On-line information on setup and use of the LEXIJET
  75.                         driver.
  76.  
  77.            LEXBUG.INF   On-line information on setup and use of your printer.
  78.  
  79.            WINOS2.TXT   Tips for using the Lexmark ColorFine driver for Windows
  80.                         in Win-OS/2.

  83. Copy the files listed above to a 1.44 MB (or larger) diskette for ease of
  84. installation as well as to provide an automatic backup.  Do not change
  85. the file names when copying them to the diskette.  If you receive more
  86. than one device driver package, the files provided with each package should
  87. be copied onto a separate diskette to avoid intermixing code or documentation
  88. files from different device driver packages.

  92. III.   INSTALLING THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1 OR LATER
  93.        -----------------------------------------------------------------
  94.  
  95.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the LEXIJET
  96.     device driver on OS/2 Version 2.1 and higher:
  97.  
  98.  
  99.     1.  If the LEXIJET device driver is already installed on your system, you
  100.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  101.         of the LEXIJET printer driver:
  102.  
  103.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the LEXIJET device
  104.             driver.
  105.  
  106.           * Shutdown your system by pointing to an open area on the desktop and
  107.             clicking mouse button 2.  From the pop-up menu that will appear,
  108.             select SHUTDOWN.  When a message appears that says that the
  109.             system has been shutdown, restart your system (press and hold CTRL
  110.             and ALT and press DELETE).

  113.     2.  If you are installing the printer driver for use with an existing
  114.         printer object, follow the instructions outlined in section III.A
  115.         below.
  116.  
  117.     3.  If you want to create a new printer object when you install this
  118.         printer driver, follow the instructions in section III.B below.

  120. III.A.   INSTALLING THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER ON AN EXISTING PRINTER OBJECT
  121.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  122.  
  123.     1.  To install this new device driver on the existing printer object,
  124.         point to the object and click mouse button 2.  This will open the
  125.         pop-up menu.
  126.  
  127.         Installing the 32-bit driver over an older 16-bit driver should work
  128.         the same as installing a newer version of the 16-bit driver.
  129.         Since the drivers share the same name they also share the same driver
  130.         data and ini data.
  131.  
  132.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS for OS/2
  133.         2.X, for OS/2 3.X and later just select SETTINGS.
  134.  
  135.     3.  Select the PRINTER DRIVER tab.
  136.  
  137.     4.  Display the pop-up menu for any printer object in the window by
  138.         pointing to the object and clicking mouse button 2.
  139.  
  140.     5.  Select INSTALL.
  141.  
  142.     6.  Insert the diskette containing the LEXIJET driver into drive A.  Make
  143.         sure that the directory field in the window contains A:\.  Then select
  144.         REFRESH.
  145.  
  146.     7.  Available Printer Driver Objects will be shown in the window.  Select
  147.         the printer driver that matches your printer.
  148.  
  149.     8.  Select INSTALL.
  150.  
  151.     9.  A message is displayed when the driver has been successfully installed.
  152.         Select OK.
  153.  
  154.    10.  Close the "Install New Printer Driver" window.  Select the LEXIJET
  155.         driver that you have just installed as your default printer driver.
  156.  
  157.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  158.         SETTING UP THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION
  159.         2.1 OR LATER.

  162. III.B.   INSTALLING THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER WHILE CREATING A NEW PRINTER
  163.          OBJECT
  164.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  165.  
  166.     1.  To create a new printer object as you install this new device driver,
  167.         double-click on the OS/2 system object to open the icon view.
  168.  
  169.     2.  Double-click on DRIVES.
  170.  
  171.     3.  Insert the diskette containing the LEXIJET device driver into the A
  172.         drive.
  173.  
  174.     4.  In the Drives window, double-click on drive A.  A window appears that
  175.         contains objects for the contents of the diskette.
  176.  
  177.     5.  Double-click on the LEXIJET.DR_ object.  A window appears from which
  178.         you can select the printer model you want.
  179.  
  180.     6.  Drag the printer model from the window out to an available place on
  181.         your desktop.
  182.  
  183.     7.  Depending on which driver you are installing, a message may appear.
  184.         The message will ask if you want to install the Win-OS/2 driver.  You
  185.         must have your OS/2 diskettes to install the Win-OS/2 driver.  If you
  186.         choose to install the Win-OS/2 driver, select YES and follow the
  187.         instructions; otherwise, select NO.
  188.  
  189.     8.  Close the windows that were opened as you installed the driver.
  190.  
  191.     9.  To change the name of the printer object, press and hold the ALT key
  192.         while you click on the object name with mouse button 1.  In the name
  193.         field of the next window displayed, enter the printer name that you
  194.         prefer.  Click mouse button 1 while pointing to an open area of the
  195.         desktop to accept the new name.
  196.  
  197.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV,
  198.         SETTING UP THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1

  202. IV.  SETTING UP THE LEXIJET DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1 OR LATER
  203.      -----------------------------------------------------------------

  205. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  206. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.
  207.  
  208.     1.  Display the pop-up menu for the printer object by pointing to it and
  209.         clicking mouse button 2.
  210.  
  211.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS for OS/2
  212.         2.X, for OS/2 3.X and later just select SETTINGS.
  213.  
  214.     3.  Select the Printer Driver tab.
  215.  
  216.     4.  Open the pop-up menu for the LEXIJET device driver by clicking on the
  217.         object with mouse button 2.
  218.  
  219.     5.  Select the arrow to the right of open, then select SETTINGS.  The next
  220.         window is titled with the name of the printer you chose.  On this
  221.         window, you can:
  222.  
  223.           * Select the settings that describe the physical setup of your
  224.             printer.
  225.  
  226.           * Select the default characteristics for print jobs.
  227.  
  228.           * Select FORM CONNECTIONS... to specify the forms installed in each
  229.             paper tray on the printer.
  230.  
  231.           * Select DOWNLOAD FONTS... to specify any download fonts you have for
  232.             the printer.
  233.  
  234.             NOTE:  You must purchase either a RAM or Flash memory option to
  235.                    download fonts.
  236.  
  237.         Note that the Driver Version is shown in this window.

  239.         After you have completed these settings, select OK to save this
  240.         configuration.
