UNITE SCANNER OBJECT
Integrative and flexible document imaging objects and products
which facilitate the development of customized, full-featured
paper- and fax-based business process applications.
The Unite Scanner Object, which was developed using IBM's
state-of-the-art System Object Model (SOM) technology, provides
accessibility to functionality available in a wide range of
scanners as well as all functionality available in the Unite
Image Viewer Object. Scanners capable of scanning color and
grayscale photographs as well as bitonal documents are
supported. The Unite Scanner Object uses the ANSI standard
Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI), which is an industry
standard for connecting peripheral devices and their controllers
to microprocessors. To ensure that users get the most from
their hardware investment, the Unite Scanner Object drives the
scanner hardware at its rated speed.
EASY TO USE
From the VX-REXX novice to the C/C++ programmer, the Unite
Scanner Object's powerful functionality is easily accessible.
The Unite Scanner Object can be integrated into development
environments such as Watcom's VX-REXX, IBM's VisualAge, and
coming soon, OpenDoc. Once the object is integrated, its
functionality can be implemented using drag-and-drop technology.
Fully functional 32-bit APIs are also available. Use the Unite
Scanner Object to develop the imaging application which solves
your paper- and fax-based business problem.
TARGET APPLICATIONS
-Convert your rows of paper-filled file cabints into images
stored on optical or CD-ROM
-Image enable your legacy mainframe application
-Upgrade from using microfiche to digital images
-Revolutionize your data entry department by using heads-up data
entry
CONVENIENT SCANNER CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
The Unite Scanner Object includes a fully functional,
DDE-enabled executable file which creates a Unite Image Viewer
Object window. By clicking the right mouse button in this
window, a pop-up menu of available methods is presented to the
user. One of the options is Set scan configuration. The Set
scan configuration option displays a three page Scanner
Configuration notebook which is used to define the scanner's
settings. Scan configuration settings can be saved and recalled
for subsequent use.
COMPREHENSIVE IMAGING CAPABILITY
All functionality included in the Unite Image Viewer Object is
available with the Unite Scanner Object. Once documents are
scanned, they can be manipulated and saved in a variety of
formats. OS/2 system clipboard cut and paste is supported which
makes transferring data between your OS/2 and Windows
applications a snap.
INTEGRATES EASILY
The Unite Scanner Object can be integrated with a number of
other Unite objects and products including: Unite Storager and
Unite CD-Maker. Mix and match any combination of Unite objects
and products to configure the system that meets your
