  23. Seems to me that this behaviour went away in the "main" drives object
  24. several fix-paks ago. It also seems to have lasted a while longer if one
  25. used the Warpcenter toolbar icon instead, but htat has also been fixed,
  26. IRRC.

  28. In either case - it is not happening any longer on any of my machines, W4
  29. FP9 is the oldest.

  63. Waoh, you are right, Apple indeed made a SCSI port printer.  Thank you for
  64. correcting my mistake.  I've looked at the Apple Spec page and found that the
  65. printer is a QuickDraw device which is the root of your problem.  You only can
  66. use QuickDraw on Mac so all of your documents for printing have to be
  67. converted
  68. on your IIcx.  Remote printing will work if there is a software which converts
  69. postscript or PCL (or something else) to QuickDraw automatically and output to
  70. the printer.  I'm sorry but with my limited knowledge, I cannot help you with
  71. this.  You may ask to Mac related news group for existence of such software.
  72. If there is one, you can use Columbia CAP package on Unix/Linux environment,
  73. at
  74. least.

  126. Sorry, folks.  I have had "AUTOFAIL=YES" in my CONFIG.SYS for years. Also
  127. redirection of POPUPLOG.

  129. ....  But neither of these is in all of my current configurations, and the
  130. problem is still no longer in evidence.  So I conclude that it was quietly
  131. "fixed" in a fixpak prior to FP9, and was also absent from Aurora Beta.

  206. We've located the problem with drives NOT coming up properly. 'New 
  207. Feature' that went into IBM1S506.ADD to flush buffers
  208. more reliably during shutdown using C-A-D. Seems to cause some disks 
  209. to SPIN DOWN and stay there. We do have a
  210. WORKAROUND (and we'll update the FP README.1ST file soon).

  212. WORKAROUND: In CONFIG.SYS on the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD line, please add
  213. " /!SHUTDOWN". This is known to fix
  214. the problem.

  409. I've been trying to get my new 20G disk to work as a single drive,
  410. after Asus surprised me by having released a BIOS update for the
  411. venerable old T2P4 motherboard so that it now has > 8G drive
  412. support. However, it seems that I still have to keep my 7.5G drive for
  413. booting. The reason is that as the readme for the idedasd package
  414. says, only partitions within the first logical 1024 cyls can be
  415. bootable. Using the formula given in the readme, I get 32x63/2, which
  416. is just 1016MB. Which is totally hopeless, since I need to have at
  417. least four bootable partitions. The 7.5G disk, on the other hand, is
  418. bootable anywhere.

  440. Check the drive mapping again. The limit is 1024 cylinders containing 255
  441. heads of 63 sectors (or ~8GB).

  505. Yep, same deal here... The reason for the two icons, IMHO, is for
  506. SuperDisk/LS120 drives. This is, after all, beta level device drivers.
  507. Report your problems to IBM just in case they give a damn after all. :)

  560. What did you try that wasn't satisfactory?

  562. Don't waste your primaries. OS/2 and Linux can boot from logicals. That
  563. frees up your first two primaries for Virus9x and NT.
  564.  
  565. WIth both IDE and SCSI coexisting in a system, you can turn your IDE
  566. controller on and off in the BIOS and/or also use the BIOS to switch
  567. between boot from SCSI and boot from IDE. The former option alone would
  568. permit no less than four bootable primaries, and as many as eight if you
  569. forego boot manager and logical volumes on the boot devices and instead
  570. use the various FDISKs to change the active primary as required.
  571.  
  572. Personally, I think it's a heap easier just to use a separate box for
  573. windoze and/or Linux, doing file transfer/sharing with removables or a
  574. network. That way, Virus9x's ill behaviors won't get a chance to screw
  575. up your IBM partition tables.

  788. I have had this problem since intalling W4 over a W3 installation.  While the
  789. blue Warp 4 logo is displaying, the boot waits approx. 60 seconds with the
  790. disk light on, then proceeds normally.  The disk setup is IDE:
  791. a:0 u:0   WDC 1gb FAT, with OS/2
  792. a:0 u:1   Syquest 3270 with cartridge always inserted
  793. a:1 u:0   IBM 16db disk with UDMA
  794. a:1 u:1   CD-ROM, now a TEAC CD-532EK, formerly a Sony CDU-55E.
  795.  
  796. The problem is independent of which model CD-ROM is installed, and the
  797. problem was present with the previous motherboard, an FIC PN-2000 and
  798. now with an IWILL XA-100Plus motherboard.  It is also present with both
  799. the IBM1s506 and the DANIS506 drivers, using the /!ATAPI argument has
  800. made no difference.  I suspect there is something in the CD-ROM BASEDEV
  801. or DEVICE level software that I should know about.
  802.  
  803. I am now at FP6 with the latest newdasd package and DANIS506.

  855. Try the new removable media (beta) USB drivers... Also be sure to email
  856. or call Castlewood to let them know you want to use Orb USB under OS/2.

  858. Personally, I'd rather buy the SCSI or ATAPI version since USB is
  859. limited to 12MBits/sec max while SCSI and IDE can do 15MB/sec sust.,
  860. according to Orb specs.

  963. How far did you get in the boot process?  Past the OS2LOGO?  If not I have
  964. a similar problem.  I can boot from floppy but not from harddisk.  I HAVE
  965. loaded the new support for large drives, but if ibm1s506.add is loaded
  966. from the hard disk nothing happens after.  I am trying to install to a new
  967. 8.1GB drive on a Toshiba laptop.  I can install and boot Windoze95 and
  968. linux, which does boot fine from the hard disk after installation.  I
  969. belive that there is still a problem in ibm1s506 with certain
  970. machine/drive combinations.  I have tried all the documented options as
  971. well.

  974. disks, and successfully booted os2 from the hard disk following the phase

  1079. How far did you get in the boot process?  Past the OS2LOGO?  If not I have
  1080. a similar problem.  I can boot from floppy but not from harddisk.  I HAVE
  1081. loaded the new support for large drives, but if ibm1s506.add is loaded
  1082. from the hard disk nothing happens after.  I am trying to install to a new
  1083. 8.1GB drive on a Toshiba laptop.  I can install and boot Windoze95 and
  1084. linux, which does boot fine from the hard disk after installation.  I
  1085. belive that there is still a problem in ibm1s506 with certain
  1086. machine/drive combinations.  I have tried all the documented options as
  1087. well.

  1089. I have put the 8.1GB hard drive in another machine, used the same install
  1090. disks, and successfully booted os2 from the hard disk following the phase
  1091. 1 of the installation.  It is only in the toshiba that there is a hang on

  1195. I have four Ultra-SCSI hard drives (one 6.4 GB, one 8.4, one 4.3 and one 4.5).

  1197. Compaq SCSI controller (it is made by Adaptec and is the equivalent of the

  1199. making my 8.4 GB hard dirve my boot device, and tried to install OS/2 Boot
  1200. manager that came
  1201. with Warp 4.0, but I could not even install it (either at the beginning or the 
  1202. end of free
  1203. space).  I eventually had to use the 6.4 as my boot  drive and Boot Manager
  1204. had no problems.
  1205. I have been told that there is an updated installation diskette (or set of
  1206. diskettes) for Warp
  1207. 4.0.  The file name indicated that it was for EIDE drives and not for SCSI. 
  1208. Is there a SCSI
  1209. version that allows bootmanager to be used with drives > 8.4 GB?  In addition, 
  1210. could the
  1211. problem stem from a BIOS issue on my "Compaq" SCSI Adaptor card?

  1255. I used the new install disks and the install went OK.
  1256. However, the boot up is slow and only one partition is seen.
  1257. Using alt/f2 I find that IBM1S506.ADD takes 56 secs to load and
  1258. IBMIDECD.FLT takes 5mins 20 secs.
  1259. After the boot is finished, only the primary partion is visible.
  1260. I used partition magic to create a primary partition in the first 2 Gb
  1261. and an HPFS partition in an extended partition just over the 2Gb limit.
  1262. A Win 98 primary partition shares the first 2 Gb.
  1263.

  1394. Yes, didn't help. Removing all partitions and letting the BIOS
  1395. autodetect the empty drive in LBA mode fixed the problem,
  1396. though. Thanks to Melvin Klassen for this gem.

  1444. other products I tested (BA/2, etc.) came up way short on being
  1445. relieable...pretty yes, reliable no.

  1569. a pair of Slackware disks) , boot Linux and use that fdisk to change the
  1570. partition type from 0x0F to 0x05. This way you don't lose your data.

  1793. one of my other machines and copied OS/2 onto it then reinstalled it in

  1795. (Neomagic), PCMCIA sockets (SSPCIC1.SYS), soundcard, the 3Com 3c589
  1796. ethernet card and just about everything else that it has.

  1802. not assigned any resources and is not accessible though.

  1837.     I had posted a plea for help a bit back asking for help getting access
  1838. to my SCSI drives.  I did a few things that were suggested and managed to
  1839. check a few things.  I booted with a Linux Slackware boot and root disk,
  1840. (I'm DEFINITELY installing slack on my machine!  I liked it from even what I
  1841. saw just booting and using it's FDISK.)  Well, that reported something about
  1842. the drive not ending on a certain range or something.  OK, so I manager to
  1843. get a copy of the latest Partition Magic on a boot disk and it tells me what
  1844. the problem REALLY was.  The IDE drives are/were the problem.  Not sure why
  1845. they're showing errors but basically, the partitions were reported as BAD by
  1846. PM with something like a #111 and a #108 error.  PM Showed me that my SCSI
  1847. drives were fully intact and all of the partitions in place.  So, I
  1848. unplugged the IDE drives and managed to reboot, too bad I already screwed up
  1849. my desktop or I would have been all set.  Oh well.  At least I can fully
  1850. access the drives and get to all of my data.

  2062. I've installed an SCM Swapbox ISA PCMCIA reader in my Warp 4 FP11 FIC PA-2013

  2065. letter is assigned when I use the PCMCIA Plug 'n Play utility in my System

  2067. formatted correctly".  This card works fine in my Olympus D220L camera--as do
  2068. my other cards which return the same error.  Has anyone seen this, and, if
  2069. so, how did you resolve it?

  2116. Theres a ton of consusion when it comes to U2SCSI.
  2117.  
  2118. My understanding is this (based in part upon documents on the Adaptec
  2119. page).

  2121. U2 is not 'wide'.  It is narrow differential.  16 data lines carrying
  2122. 8 bits of data differentially.  Its fast because of higher clock rate
  2123. on the SCSI bus.
  2124.  
  2125. If you have any non U2SCSI devices, be they wide or otherwise on the
  2126. U2SCSI bus, the U2 device will drop back to U mode (Ultra narrow) or
  2127. narrow Single ended.
  2128.  
  2129. So, in answer to your question - the drive must be capable of being
  2130. set, or autosetting to Ultra or 'Single ended mode'.  Almost all
  2131. drives should do this automatically.
  2132.  
  2133. This being the case your U2 drive will act as a narrow USCSI drive on
  2134. your UWSCSI bus (20MB / Sec).
  2135.  
  2136. Be aware that if you have a U2SCSI controller, a U2 drive and a FSCSI
  2137. (narrow SE) say ... tape drive on the same bus, your U2SCSI drive will
  2138. drop back to USCSI mode.

  2173. install 
  2174. the necessary scsi tape drivers into your system.
