I've looked at the Apple Spec page and found that the printer is a QuickDraw device which is the root of your problem. From: Anssi Saari I've been trying to get my new 20G disk to work as a single drive, after Asus surprised me by having released a BIOS update for the venerable old T2P4 motherboard so that it now has > 8G drive support. However, it seems that I still have to keep my 7.5G drive for booting. The reason is that as the readme for the idedasd package says, only partitions within the first logical 1024 cyls can be bootable. Using the formula given in the readme, I get 32x63/2, which is just 1016MB. Which is totally hopeless, since I need to have at least four bootable partitions. What did you try that wasn't satisfactory? Don't waste your primaries. OS/2 and Linux can boot from logicals. That frees up your first two primaries for Virus9x and NT. WIth both IDE and SCSI coexisting in a system, you can turn your IDE controller on and off in the BIOS and/or also use the BIOS to switch between boot from SCSI and boot from IDE. The former option alone would permit no less than four bootable primaries, and as many as eight if you forego boot manager and logical volumes on the boot devices and instead use the various FDISKs to change the active primary as required. Personally, I think it's a heap easier just to use a separate box for windoze and/or Linux, doing file transfer/sharing with removables or a network. That way, Virus9x's ill behaviors won't get a chance to screw up your IBM partition tables. -- A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. From: mjoberl@ibm.net Hello, I have had this problem since intalling W4 over a W3 installation. While the blue Warp 4 logo is displaying, the boot waits approx. 60 seconds with the disk light on, then proceeds normally. The disk setup is IDE: a:0 u:0 WDC 1gb FAT, with OS/2 a:0 u:1 Syquest 3270 with cartridge always inserted a:1 u:0 IBM 16db disk with UDMA a:1 u:1 CD-ROM, now a TEAC CD-532EK, formerly a Sony CDU-55E. The problem is independent of which model CD-ROM is installed, and the problem was present with the previous motherboard, an FIC PN-2000 and now with an IWILL XA-100Plus motherboard. It is also present with both the IBM1s506 and the DANIS506 drivers, using the /!ATAPI argument has made no difference. I suspect there is something in the CD-ROM BASEDEV or DEVICE level software that I should know about. I am now at FP6 with the latest newdasd package and DANIS506. I eventually had to use the 6.4 as my boot drive and Boot Manager had no problems. I have been told that there is an updated installation diskette (or set of diskettes) for Warp 4.0. The file name indicated that it was for EIDE drives and not for SCSI. Is there a SCSI version that allows bootmanager to be used with drives > 8.4 GB? This is a laptop about the same size as a VHS video cassette with a 7.1" screen, 32Mb, 2GB HD. It came with Win98 installed. I backed up its install files and blew away the contents of the HD, installed the HD into one of my other machines and copied OS/2 onto it then reinstalled it in the laptop. OS/2 works fine on here. I have drivers for the video card (Neomagic), PCMCIA sockets (SSPCIC1.SYS), soundcard, the 3Com 3c589 ethernet card and just about everything else that it has. Now, I'd really like to try to get the floppy drive to work. This is a special unit that's made by someone called Y-E Data (www.yedata.com.jp I think) and appears to have drivers for Win9x, and Win NT only. It's detected by "Plug and Play for PCMCIA" and shows up as an I/O card. It's not assigned any resources and is not accessible though. Has anyone found drivers for this beast or for anything similar? It also has a docking station that contains a USB socket. This reports itself as NEC - USB Open Host Controller (Serial Bus - USB) which is a PCI device from vendor NEC (1033) with Device id 0035. Is this one that's likely to be supported by the OS/2 USB drivers? I tried loading the drivers but they immediately unloaded themselves and I don't know if this is because there's nothing attached or because the chipset isn't supported. From: "Sean Smith" Hey all, I had posted a plea for help a bit back asking for help getting access to my SCSI drives. I did a few things that were suggested and managed to check a few things. I booted with a Linux Slackware boot and root disk, (I'm DEFINITELY installing slack on my machine! I liked it from even what I saw just booting and using it's FDISK.) Well, that reported something about the drive not ending on a certain range or something. OK, so I manager to get a copy of the latest Partition Magic on a boot disk and it tells me what the problem REALLY was. The IDE drives are/were the problem. Not sure why they're showing errors but basically, the partitions were reported as BAD by PM with something like a #111 and a #108 error. PM Showed me that my SCSI drives were fully intact and all of the partitions in place. So, I unplugged the IDE drives and managed to reboot, too bad I already screwed up my desktop or I would have been all set. Oh well. At least I can fully access the drives and get to all of my data. *&% IDE. I've already managed to trade that 6 Gig IDE for a 4 Gig SCSI, so I'm happy. Now if I can only work a deal with the same guy to get that SCSI DAT tape backup he has... My understanding is this (based in part upon documents on the Adaptec page). U2 is not 'wide'. It is narrow differential. 16 data lines carrying 8 bits of data differentially. Its fast because of higher clock rate on the SCSI bus. If you have any non U2SCSI devices, be they wide or otherwise on the U2SCSI bus, the U2 device will drop back to U mode (Ultra narrow) or narrow Single ended. So, in answer to your question - the drive must be capable of being set, or autosetting to Ultra or 'Single ended mode'. Almost all drives should do this automatically. This being the case your U2 drive will act as a narrow USCSI drive on your UWSCSI bus (20MB / Sec). Be aware that if you have a U2SCSI controller, a U2 drive and a FSCSI (narrow SE) say ... tape drive on the same bus, your U2SCSI drive will drop back to USCSI mode. Craig PS - Putting a UW terminator on a U2SCSI chain will make it drop to USCSI also. Get a U2SCSI terminator, or an autosensing one at least.
