  27. 1. Equipment Setup
  28. ------------------

  30. (1) Graphics card setup
  31. Zooming may sometimes appear slow and not very smooth. This could 
  32. be related to your computer and its graphics card.
  33. If you see this symptom, please adjust the "Hardware Acceleration" 
  34. slider control in the "Performance"/"Trouble Shooting" tab of the 
  35. Display Adapter Properties Dialog on your computer so that it is 
  36. set one notch below "Full".
  37.  
  38. (2) Display settings
  39. You may view or change the Display settings on your computer 
  40. using the "Settings" tab of the "Display Properties" dialog. 
  41. The "Display Properties" Dialog may be accessed from the Control 
  42. Panel on your computer.
  43.  
  44. (2.1) Some text may not be visible at default window size when 
  45. using the "Large Fonts" Display setting 
  46. If your computer has the "Large Fonts" Display setting selected, 
  47. some of the text in ZoomBrowser EX task steps windows may not be 
  48. visible at the default window size.
  49. If this happens, resize the ZoomBrowser EX window so all text is 
  50. visible.
  51.  
  52. (2.2) On some operating systems, avoid using the 16 bit High Color 
  53. Display setting
  54. Users of Windows 98 in 16bit high color mode may experience 
  55. unusual graphic display of the ZoomBrowser EX interface.
  56. This can be resolved by changing the "Colors" Display setting to 
  57. 24bit true color or above.

  60. 2. Upgrading from ZoomBrowser EX version 2/version 3
  61. ----------------------------------------------------
  62.  
  63. If you have added comments or titles to your images using 
  64. ZoomBrowser EX version 2 or version 3, you will have to run a 
  65. database converter tool prior to being able to view these 
  66. comments/titles in this version of ZoomBrowser EX.
  67. The database converter tool is called dbconverter.exe and may be 
  68. found at the location where you installed this version of 
  69. ZoomBrowser EX.

  72. 3. Sending E-mail
  73. -----------------
  74.  
  75. (1) MAPI support is required
  76. The E-mail facility requires a compatible Mapi32.dll to be 
  77. installed in order to function correctly. A Mapi32.dll is 
  78. installed when MAPI communication is enabled in your usual e-mail 
  79. program.
  80. If an older incompatible version of a Mapi32.dll is currently 
  81. installed and MAPI is not enabled in your usual e-mail program,
  82. enabling MAPI in this program should install a compatible 
  83. Mapi32.dll.
  84. If MAPI is already enabled in the e-mail program, the e-mail 
  85. program needs to be upgraded and MAPI enabled.

  88. 4. Backup to CD (Windows XP only)
  89. ---------------------------------
  90.  
  91. (1) Error message and backup failure when insufficient CD free 
  92. space
  93. ZoomBrowser EX may show a message stating that there is 
  94. insufficient space on the CD during the final stages of the 
  95. Backup to CD task.
  96. This happens when the total size of the selected images is very 
  97. close to total available free space on the CD and there is 
  98. insufficient space on the CD to store some additional 
  99. ZoomBrowser EX information files.
  100. When this happens, the selected images are not backed up to the CD.
  101. Please reduce the number of selected images and start the Backup 
  102. to CD task again.
  103.  
  104. (2) Do not turn off power to CD writer during Backup to CD
  105.     
  106. Please do not turn off power to a CD burner while in the Backup 
  107. to CD task. This may cause errors in ZoomBrowser EX.
  108. If this happens, please start ZoomBrowser EX again.
  109.  
  110. (3) Backup to CD may fail while other CD writing software is open 
  111. ZoomBrowser EX may fail to backup files while other CD writing 
  112. software is open. If this happens, close all other CD writing 
  113. software and start the Backup to CD task again.
  114.

  116. 5. Read-only images/folders
  117. ---------------------------
  118.  
  119. You may browse images in a read-only folder or CD-ROM, but you 
  120. will not be able to associate comments with images in these 
  121. folders. This restriction also applies to images that are flagged 
  122. as read-only. 
  123. If you do want to save a comment for a read-only image, please 
  124. clear the read-only check box for this image using Windows 
  125. Explorer.

  128. 6. Using the Color Management feature
  129. -------------------------------------
  130.  
  131. (1) Enabling Color Management
  132.  
  133. The Preferences > General tab now has a selectable Color 
  134. Management option.
  135. When enabled, image colors displayed in ZoomBrowser EX are matched 
  136. to the monitor ICC profile, so that colors remain consistent.
  137.  
  138. Color management is Off by default.
  139.  
  140. (2) Supported image types
  141.  
  142. Color management is performed for the following types of images 
  143. when color space information (including an ICC profile) can be 
  144. retrieved from the image:
  145.  
  146. - Exif JPEG
  147. - Exif TIFF
  148. - RAW
  149.       
  150. ZoomBrowser EX will not perform color management for all other 
  151. image types.
  152.  
  153. NOTE: If you change your monitor's color profile whilst 
  154. ZoomBrowser EX is running, ZoomBrowser EX will continue to use the 
  155. color profile that was being used when the application was started. 
  156. For ZoomBrowser EX to use the new monitor color profile, close 
  157. ZoomBrowser EX and start it again.
  158.  
  159. (3) Canon Utilities supporting Color Management
  160.  
  161. The following Canon Utilities support Color Management:
  162.  
  163. - CameraWindow 5.1 or later
  164. - RAW Image Task 2.0.1 or later
  165.  
  166.  
  167. 7. Other Issues
  168. ---------------
  169.  
  170. (1) Starting ZoomBrowser EX after abnormal termination of the 
  171. Remote Shooting application
  172.     
  173. If the Remote Shooting application terminates abnormally, you may 
  174. not be able to start ZoomBrowser EX thereafter. If this happens, 
  175. please restart your computer.
  176.  
  177. (2) Avoid manipulating images using other tools while the images 
  178. are being accessed in ZoomBrowser EX
  179.  
  180. It is recommended that you do not delete, move or change any 
  181. images using other applications while you are accessing these 
  182. images within ZoomBrowser EX.
  183.  
  184. (3) Avoid using extremely long file/folder names
  185.  
  186. On some operating systems, ZoomBrowser EX may behave abnormally 
  187. when trying to access files or folders with extremely long names. 
  188. If this happens, please change the file/folder to have a shorter 
  189. name.
  190.  
  191. (4) Do not uninstall ZoomBrowser EX while ZoomBrowser EX is 
  192. running
  193.  
  194. If you try to uninstall ZoomBrowser EX while ZoomBrowser EX is 
  195. running, the uninstall will partially work and only some of the 
  196. files will be removed.
  197. Please do not uninstall ZoomBrowser EX while ZoomBrowser EX is 
  198. running.
  199.  
  200. (5) Images rotated using the File Viewer Utility, EOS Viewer 
  201. Utility, or Digital Photo Professional may not be correctly 
  202. displayed in ZoomBrowser EX
  203.  
  204. ZoomBrowser EX may not correctly display images that have been 
  205. rotated using the File Viewer Utility, EOS Viewer Utility, or 
  206. Digital Photo Professional.
  207. If this happens, please rename or make a copy of the image using 
  208. windows explorer, then view the new image in ZoomBrowser EX.
  209. The new image should then be displayed correctly.
  210.  
  211. (6) Unsupported image types
  212.  
  213. Some image types have many variations. ZoomBrowser EX may not 
  214. support all such variations and, therefore, may not show the 
  215. unsupported images correctly.
  216. To view such an image within ZoomBrowser EX, please open the 
  217. image in an image editor that supports its particular type and 
  218. then save the image in an image type supported by ZoomBrowser EX 
  219. (e.g. JPEG).
  220.  
  221. (7) Do not eject a CD during Slide Show
  222.  
  223. Please do not eject a CD from which the ZoomBrowser EX Slide Show 
  224. is displaying images as this could cause errors.
  225. If this happens, exit and re-start ZoomBrowser EX.
  226.  
  227. (8) Copy function not available from menus on Windows 98
  228.  
  229. The Copy function is not available from the ZoomBrowser EX Edit 
  230. menu or right-click menu on Windows 98.
  231. You can Copy and Paste images/folders by dragging and dropping 
  232. them while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard.
  233.  
  234. (9) Sending RAW images to Layout Print task
  235.  
  236. You can send RAW images to PhotoRecord if you select a RAW image
  237. and start the [Layout Print] task, or start the [Print Using
  238. Other Software] task and click Contact Sheet Print.
  239. In these cases, the RAW file is developed into a temporary file
  240. and the temporary file is printed. Thus, if you save an album
  241. containing a RAW file, the RAW file may not appear in the album
  242. when it is opened. If this occurs, please develop the RAW image
  243. using the [Process RAW Images] task, and save it to another
  244. image type. Then add this new image to your album.
  245.
