Setup for Diskless Workstations on a LAN
For customers who want to use the Norton pcANYWHERE on a diskless workstation
to connect to a network should the following procedure:
1. Install the Norton pcANYWHERE/LAN or pcANYWHERE/Host into a
sub-directory, F:\LOGIN, AW4 for example, on the network drive.
2. Create an AUTOEXE.BAT for the host workstation with the following
commands at the end of the file:
a. < load the appropriate network drivers >
b. F:
c. CD AW4
d. AWLOVL1 -I=xxx -m=a or "AWHOVL1 -m=a" for the serial version
e. CD ..
f. CLS
g. LOGIN
Note: xxx is the Norton pcANYWHERE IV/LAN user id.
3. Run the pcANYWHERE and from the Host Main Menu,
a. Choose "Select Active Configuration" and choose the
current modem configuration.
b. Press ESC and save any changes that were made.
c. From the host Main Menu, select "Preferences" and "Security".
Set the "Reboot on disconnect" field to "Yes - Coldboot Always".
d. Press ESC and save any changes that were made.
e. Exit pcANYWHERE.
f. Reboot the Workstation.
Each time the workstation reboots, the network drivers are loaded, the
pcANYWHERE HOST TSR is loaded and set to accept a call at any time. The
network login prompt will appear on the screen after a remote caller connects
to this machine via pcANYWHERE.
Additional security can be setup by using "Caller Information Lists" option
and setting up passwords for each caller that wishes to use the system.
