Direct Connect Setup
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For this type of connection the computers are directly connected via null-modem
cable to a serial port on each computer. Please verify that your hardware is
in working order and the cable is a true null-modem cable. If you do not use a
null-modem cable this type of connection will not work correctly. Please see
Appendix A Modems and Cables for more information.
After verifying your hardware, please make the following changes to your
pcANYWHERE Hardware Configurations.
HOST:
Device/Port: (the port with the null-modem cable attached to it)
Modem Type: None
Data Rate: (Start low and work your way up, do not use max.)
Parity: None
Flow Control: RTS/CTS
Conn. Started By: Receive 2 <CR>'s
Conn. Ended By: Always Connected or DCD
After configuring the Hardware Configurations for the host, please save the
changes by pressing ESC then saying Yes to the Save prompt. Select this
configuration as the Active Configuration, then Begin Host Operation. Select
either Exit, Allow Incoming Calls or Wait for a Call. The host is now set-up
and waiting for a call.
REMOTE:
Device/Port: (the port with the null-modem cable attached to it)
Modem Type: None
Data Rate: (Same value as Host)
Parity: None
Flow Control: RTS/CTS
Conn. Started By: Always Connected
Conn. Ended By: Always Connected or DCD
After configuring the Hardware Configurations for the remote, please save the
changes by pressing ESC then saying Yes to the Save prompt. Select the host
you wish to connect to. The Information for your host must have the above
remote Hardware Configuration for the selected host. There is no need for a
phone number for direct connections. Press ESC to save the changes and call
the host.
Your screen will be blank except for a bar at the bottom and a flashing cursor
in the upper left corner of the remote screen. Press ENTER twice. This should
begin the connection.
