Remote Computing and pcANYWHERE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn't it be great to be able to access and use the computer at your office
from your home? Print a letter while at your office that exists on the
computer at Home? Automatically have the computer transfer a file or execute
a program remotely at a prescribed date and time? Remote Computing offers the
convenience of being at both places at the same time. Remote computing is a
concept widely used today in a multitude of professions; from Banking to
Education, to Medicine.
To understand the Remote Computing concept, imagine that you have arms many
miles long! Yes, that's right: arms capable of stretching and reaching
objects situated miles and miles away! They could extend through your window,
cross rivers and cities, reaching into your office, then, from miles away,
start typing on your office computer's keyboard. You would be able to control
the office computer from anywhere, and use all the office programs you need to.
You can even choose to print at the office, at home, or both. Connect to your
office computer with your desktop from the comfort of your home. Dial-up and
connect to your home computer with your laptop from your hotel room; to your
customer site from your support desk; establish a remote control between two
workstations located on the same network but in two different areas, or between
two networks located in different locations; you can even remotely control your
mainframe terminal! Of course if the two computers are close enough, you don't
even need a phone line nor a modem: you can just connect the two machines
through the serial ports via a Null modem cable!
The applications for remote computing are virtually endless. From single DOS
or Windows based PC's to the large multi-platform networks, The NORTON
pcANYWHERE will offer the computer professional, as well as the basic computer
user or enthusiast, the capability to perform tasks remotely that could once
only be performed at the local machine.
The NORTON pcANYWHERE for LAN expands your horizons even further: not only can
you connect two computers via phone line, but you can also use your network
cable to remotely control a second workstation on the same local or wide area
network. The NORTON pcANYWHERE for LAN also allows all the workstations on
the network to be able to access a single modem, thus eliminating the cost of
buying expensive modems for different users! Remote computing breaks the
barrier of distance and the limitation imposed by other high cost solutions.
Remote computing breaks the distance barrier, and The NORTON pcANYWHERE is the
software that makes it all come together.
