Kuei Mei is traditionally named 'Propriety', 'The Marrying Maiden' or
'Marrying a Young Girl'. These titles are derived from the sociological
implications of the trigrams- the youngest daughter (lake), seeks a successful
match with the eldest son (thunder). Defined by its triad attributes, 'Inspi-
ration' is an inner happiness suddenly expressed. Here the tension of the
changing moment (the opposition of the Earth and Mars) is released in exclama-
tion, laughter, or quick movement. Complacency is invigorated and transformed
into action in the image of thunder rolling across the surface of the lake.
Pleasures are heightened by the unexpected and the original. 'Inspiration'
warns against too great a preoccupation with immediate gratification and the
desires of the moment.
