(It's either 936 or 966, I'm not sure) My drive works beautifully, and

I've recently acquired an old Seagate MFM drive (ST 4096) but don't
have its configuration information (such as number of cylinders, number
of heads, starting write precompensation cylinder and shipping zone). I
believe that there is a list somewhere that gives configuration
information on all manner of drives. Please could some kind soul email
me a copy of such a list or point me at a site where I can get hold of
a copy OR provide me with the information I need?
Thanks in advance,

Subject: environment in dos window in windows
In order to customize a Windows DOS window, I create a program item in
Program Manager which calls a PIF, e.g., MYDOS.PIF. I then create a
PIF which invokes a batch file, e.g., MYDOS.BAT. This batch file can
load in TSR's, etc. In my experience, the original (boot-up) DOS
environment is preserved.

Subject: Epson LQ-2550
Folks,
Has anyone out there had any troubles with Epson LQ-2550's
under reasonably heavy use ? We've had print heads go bad every month
or two. The mean time between failures for 25% use ( 2 hours out of 8
) is 6000 hours, or two years. We estimate that we have about 50% use,
but have a mean time between failures of about 300 hours at most.
Something's fishy. By the way, we're printing on three part
forms, if that makes any difference ( it shouldn't ).
Please reply by e-mail, as I'm not currently on the list.

Yes, I have about the same situation. I have a 212Mb Conner (IDE) and a
80Mb Seagate (SCSI). I use a IDE controller that came with the Conner
and a DTC 3280 SCSI controller (bought this one instead of the ST-01
controller that came with the Seagate because that one did not work
correct with the IDE). I just load two device drivers in high memory
for the SCSI and it maps the SCSI as H: and I:. Works perfect. I even
used it with a second IDE drive which was indeed some more plugging
etc. but it worked too (had to check which jumper to put where), but I
had no problem like:
> ASPI drivers needed to be loaded for the dual IDE setup.
Only a jumper needed to be set elsewhere, no messing with config.sys or
whatever. SCSI was mapped as I: and J: afterwards.
> >Make sure that when you purchase the SCSI controller, you get the

Strange, my controller came with all drivers I needed, for DOS, OS/2
and Unix systems and costs only half as much as an Adaptec. Why are
they sold separately??? You can't use the drive without the drivers if
it's not a primary one.
And another remark:
> Former sites reported as inactive for OS/2 as of 27 Nov 92
>
> novell.com 130.57.4.1 pub/os2
> reported to have abandoned os/2: newest may 92
Appears to have become ftp.novell.com
Hope this helps,

I found this kind of activity on a 386 when I put a 200 mg Connor drive
into the system. I formatted it with DR DOS 6 - and every so often the
drive light would come on, the who system would be locked for a couple
of seconds, and then the machine would continue as normal. I thought
it had something to do with DR DOS. Then I thought it might have
something to do with buffers in high memory -- and then a disk cache --
etc, etc. the Digital Research people couldn't help.
I basically put up with the problem until I got made and repartitioned
the 200 mg drive into two 100 mg drives. after the the problem mostly
went away.... although sometimes it would return.
When I put os2 os the system, I never saw that problem again. That
includes using FAT and HPFSpartitions on the drive.

Does any one know anything about this??

yes. The switch is in the FDISK command.
If you want to restore you master boot record (perhaps virus infected
with some sort of partition virus) do a
FDISK /MBR
and you master boot record will be replaced.

Hi folks
Recently I installed a IBM PS/2 Adapter/A for Ethernet Networks
in a IBM PS/2 model 80, but I'm having problems to find out which
packet driver should be used with this adapter. The manual pages of the
adapter says that it works like Western Digital EtherCard PLUS/A, so
any packet driver that works with these two may solve my problem.
Thanks in advance.

Subject: PGD(PGA) <=to=> VGA converter. Possible?
We are about to chuck an IBM PGD (Professional Graphics Display) into
the trash here. But before I let them do it, I'm trying to use it as
VGA monitor. PGD/PGA was IBM's first stab at Analog display
technology.
The pin in/outs of the PGD/PGA are very close to the VGA but not exact.
There's a correspondence of the red, green , blue and returns. Where
the PGA is composite sync, vga is horizontal sync, and the mode control
is where vert sync is.
Can a 15 pin to 9 pin converter be created? The other pins on the
VGA not accounted for are the Monitor ID BITs (1,1,2) on pins 11,12 &
4.
Better yet, does anyone know of an outfit that has 'created' one of
these connectors and sells them? It would be worth paying $50.00 for
something that works.
any help would be appreciated. Please respond directly as I don't
think there's a lot of interest in this area. I will summarize if I
get some good information worth passing on.

Eduardo Zeballos Veraloza writes about a Maxtor 7120A 120MB drive, I've
seen the same problem in systems here. On the drive, JB2 (jumper block
2) should have jumpers 2 and 3 REMOVED for the configuration he listed.
i.e. 1024 cyl, 14 hds, 17 spt. If jumper 2 is installed, your BIOS
lists too many tracks and cylinders.
