INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING TODO.EXE
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU MUST SET THE CORRECT DATE IN ORDER
TO UTILIZE THIS PROGRAM!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This disk contains the file TODO.EXE, a simple "TO DO" list manager. Copy the
program to your hard disk into a subdirectory which is included in your PATH
command (e.g. \DOS). (If you don't know which subdirectories are included in
your PATH specification, just type PATH at the C> prompt.)
Place this disk in drive A: and type COPY A:TODO.EXE C:\DOS (use any PATH
subdirectory--\DOS is just an example).
You may specify a name for your to do list file by including the name when
invoking the program (e.g. TODO myfile). If you just type TODO the
program will use a file called TODO.2DU. If you have used a previous version
of TODO Version 2.0 or later, your file 'TODO.2DO' needs to be converted to
the new file format. THIS PROGRAM WILL NOT ACCEPT DATA FILES FROM PREVIOUS
VERSIONS. A file called TODOCV.ARC contains a conversion program.
If you are still using a version of TODO prior to Version 2.0 you will have to
re-enter your data. Also, be sure to delete TODO.COM from your disk since DOS
always runs a COM file before an EXE file.
Now, from the C: prompt type TODO. The first time the program runs it will ask
if you wish to create a new data file. The default data file is always created
in the current subdirectory. You should be sure that the subdirectory you are
working in is included in your PATH command. That way the program will be able
to find the data file even if you invoke it from another subdirectory.
If you specify a file name the program will create it in the current
subdirectory unless you specify a subdirectory. Thereafter just type TODO (or
TODO filename) to see your list. When the list is showing you may hit the F1
key for help.
It is recommended that you add TODO as the last line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Three files other than the EXE file are important to the operation of the
program: TODO.CFG where your color selections and other options are stored,
TODO.2DN where notes are stored and TODO.DUN where completed items are stored.
You may have several data files; if you invoke TODO with the file name MYFILE
for example, the program will automatically create files called MYFILE.2DU and
MYFILE.2DN.
Setting printer strings:
This can be confusing in many programs; there are many ways to do this. For
this program you actually type the KEYS which correspond to printer control
codes. When the printer setup window appears, if you want to send an ESCAPE
followed by an E, you hit the escape key followed by the E key. You don't
have to use numbers such as \027 (or worse, hex numbers). If you want to send
a Control-O just type it (that's 015 for you diehards). Alas, if your printer
manual only gives you the numbers (027 or 015) you'll have to consult a manual
on BASIC or somebody else's printer manual.

This is not "free" software. (Not much worthwhile is free.) It is not "in the
public domain". It is copyrighted and owned by me. The idea here is that you
can try the software at no risk. Decide if you like it enough to continue
using it. If you do, send me $25 to register your copy. I will send you
instructions on how to remove the notices and reminders that appear. If you
have registered a previous version you are entitled to this update for free if
you obtain it from a bulletin board, Compuserve, etc. Registered users can
always obtain the latest copy from me by sending $5 with YOUR disk and mailer or
$8 if you want me to furnish the disk and mailer.
Send your $25 check to:

Please note Version number 3.3. Also I'd like to know where you obtained the
program. If you are a Compuserve subscriber please give me your ID so that I
can send your instructions via EasyPlex. Please print your name legibly so
that the instructions can be sent directly to you even if you are registering
in a company name.
Volume discounts:
Register 5 copies for $100
10 copies for $175
20 copies for $300
or contact me for site license information.
Availability of updates:
-Latest version always available in the IBMSW forum on Compuserve and
on Plantz BBS in Chicago
-Thus far the Public (Software) Library has been carrying the program
-Registered users can send $8 to me for latest version on disk OR send your
own disk and $5 to cover postage and handling.
What if you don't register? I have included what many people have written to
say is a good gentle reminder to register. When you run the program I add an
item to your TODO list to remind you to register. You can delete the item
immediately so it doesn't muck up your list. Hopefully this will "nag" you
without irritating you. When the program is finished, I display my
commercial. If you register I tell you how to stop the reminders; that's
all there is to it.
