The general setup of the SYSTERLink mail network is very similar to that
of other mail networks. Look at the file NETWORK.MNL for a graphical
respresentation if SYSTERLink's layout.
My System, The Data Hut BBS, at this point, is serving as the Super
Hub, Regional Hub, and hub for central Illinois. Eventually, there
will be one Regional Hub for each part of the United States; that is,
North, South, East, West, and central.
The local boards are the key to the success of SYSTERLink, as with all mail
networks. Without the local boards, the message bases would die.
Therefore, it is important that the local boards exchange their mail
packets with their Hubs on a regular basis. When a local board applies
for membership, it will recieve the phone numbers of all of the Hubs. On
the Super Hub, there is a bulletin which lists all Nodes, Hubs, and
Regional Hubs. If, for some reason, the board's area Hub is
non-functional for an extended period of time, the board's Sysop (or
Sysops) is (are) expected to contact a different Hub. This is also true
for Hubs. If the Hub's Regional Hub is non-functional for a extended
period of time, the Hub is expected to contact a different Regional Hub.
As so on an so forth.
At this point, it will be left up to the individual Sysops of the boards
carrying SYSTERLink to decide upon how often they should exchange mail with
their Hubs. It should be at least once a week, and no more that once a
day. Hubs, Regional Hubs, and Mega Hubs should exchange mail at least once
a day. When messages begin to pick up, Nodes will be expected to exchange
mail with their Hubs once a day.
All nodes must carry the Conferences listed with a "*" in the CONFEREN.MNL
file. It is recomended that nodes carry all Conferences, but this is not
a requirement at this time. You MAY NOT CHARGE for access to the SYSTERLink
message conferences. If your system is a subscription system, we have no
objection to your charging for access to other message bases, echos, or file
listings, but if you carry SYSTERLINK, you MUST grant access to our
conferences without charge to any caller.
If you carry our ADULT conference, you MUST restrict access to it to persons
OVER 21 ONLY. It is YOUR responsibility to determine the age of the users
you grant access to this conference and you will be held liable if any user
under 21 gains access. If we discover you have granted access to any user
under the age of 21, we will remove you from the SYSTERLink network.
At this point, I believe I have covered all bases. If you still have
questions or concerns, you can leave me a message in the conference called
SYSTERLink, which all nodes are supposed to carry.
Enclosed in this archive is a file called SYSOP.MNL. It contains
information for people wishing to be Conference Sysops. You, as a Sysop
of a BBS which carries SYSTERLink, should have it available for download on
your BBS. When a user expresses interest in becoming a Conference Sysop,
and you believe s/he would make a good Conference Sysop, you should
recommend that the person downloads the file and reads it.
I hope you will now fill out the file APPLY.MNL and either send it to:
