Memos&More is not quite new - dates back to 1990 - but has first recently got to Europe - specialises in filecomments of remarkable sizes: up to 500 lines of text (about 10 pages or 20 screens) can be attached to each file in a di- rectory and can not only be used for descriptions but also online help etc. And as all interbational character sets are allowed it can be writted in own language! Another function could at present be found in schools etc where it would be possible for the teacher to build native language help and introduction for the users to each program ... probably the best use for the program as the capacity for comments is simply unneeded big for most applications ... Most of them have great facilities if you have the time for learning what in many cases can be compared to a new programming language and most common users haven't got the background or patience for that ... and partly most of them shoots over the target offering a lot of unneeded extra facilities ... Dart from UserWare is a new system which makes it very easy to make hypertexts and nevertheless offers facilities most users want! Installation is easy. Just run Dart from the disk or copy all files from the floppy to an empty harddisk dir. If started by GO it will present an intro- duction, usermanual, registration form etc. - all organised by Dart in hyper- textformat! (And a nice extra feature: if you would like to give a copy of the shareware version on, there a nice reset facility to make sure that the new user can have an 'untouched' copy of Dart as you wil set set bookmarks to be saved and returned to when closing ... There is a smaller editor in Dart but author correct- ly states that it should only be used for smaller corrections ... The codes and symbols for filenames and springmarks etc. are simple and don't collide with use of extended characters for most languages (even danish hypers can be made) and can be inserted directly with the writing of the text or la- ter in the hypereditor ... When the ASCII's are prepared the organisation in the hypertext program takes place and here's some nice features too. Modern interface with keyboard and/or mouse control, multiple windows, EGA/VGA support and context sensitive help. And dos programs can be launched from within Dart fx. for looking at a graphic file with a graphic viewer etc. Especially can be mentioned: automatic generation of contents, small menus with more links, saving of the desktop when quitting and that the finished product can be compressed to almost 50% not only securing the texts against outside tampering (the compression cannot be reversed) but also giving the possibility of distributing a hyper of almost 500K on a 360K disk! Extra good things: No fuss about distribution of runtime modules etc. When registering your own name is branded in your copy and you may use this all you like to distribute your own royaltifree hypers. Whether you have met hypertext systems before or not you should give Dart a try! Recommended! A usefull shareware program after best SW-tradition! ShareWare for 29$ + s/h. Green │ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ A greatlooking menu system with VGA-graphics in 256 colours comes with a nice install program which copies the program files to the harddisk in C:\PSMENU and offers to make the necessary changes in AUTOEXEC.BAT for including PSMenu in the path and starting the menu system automatically after boot ... After start with PS the program shows the first selction menu in form of a page divided in 25 big program buttons which really is where PS shines!! with good overview and 'icons' big enough for children too with no wasted empty space ... Supported sound: none, speaker, AdLib & Roland. PSMenu comes with 55 icons ... but most probably you will not find icons for all programs you would installed, and here the 'icon'-editor comes in function with facilities like most iconeditors (but here with 256 colours). Icons from Windows etc. cannot be used, but the editor supports full import/export of .PCX picture ... so if you have some clipart I see no difficulties in making your own pictures for PSMenu as fine as those enclosed with the program. At the start of the editing process FM reads current font into memory which can then be treated with all the facilities of FM ... Output as COM-fonte easy to use for everyone: just write the name of the wan- ted font and it will appear instead of current font ... For programmers there are additional output as sourcecode (ASM, C, Pascal and BIN) to use in own programs ... The shareware version is rather limited as all block functions are locked.
