  12. **********  FAX RECEIVE PROBLEMS WITH SUPRA AND WINFAX  **********

  14. After having a problem when trying to receive faxes with my 
  15. Supra V.32bis Fax/Modem & WinFax Lite, I faxed technical support.
  16.  
  17. The problem involved the carrier being dropped at random times
  18. during fax receives.  The Delrina WinFax Lite software, which
  19. comes bundled with the modem, reported "Communications Error - 102".
  20.  
  21. According to Terri Isom, Supra Technical Support Rep, this is a
  22. software message, not a hardware message.  This problem can have 
  23. several causes as follows:
  24.  
  25.         Delrina has reported incompatibilities with Norton Desk-Top.
  26.         Some WinFax users report sparadic performance problems when 
  27.         running Winfax with Norton Desk-Top.
  28.  
  29.         If your system is a 386SX or higher, check your WIN.INI file.
  30.         If you don't have a [368Enh] section, add it to your WIN.INI
  31.         file and add the lines below.  If you do have this section
  32.         add these lines to it:
  33.  
  34.         NOTE: Replace the ~ symbol with the com port number your 
  35.               modem is connected to. (Example: Com2Buffer=1024)
  36.  
  37.                 ComBoostTime=20
  38.                 Com~Protocol=XOFF 
  39.                 Com~Buffer=1024
  40.                 Com~AutoAssign=0
  41.  
  42. I have made these changes but have not yet tried to receive a fax
  43. to check out if this fixes the problem.

  45.          ==========  NOTE ABOUT SUPRA ROM UPGRADES  ==========
  46.  
  47. If you received and installed a ROM upgrade from Supra, Terri Isom reports
  48. that there is an instruction missing from the installation instructions.
  49.  
  50. After the installation is complete and the modem powers up with the OK message,
  51. enter your communications program and enter the following:
  52.  
  53.         AT&F2&W&W2 <ENTER>
  54.  
  55.         NOTE: This will over-write any custom configurations you
  56.               may have written to the modems non-volitile memory.
  57.  
  58. This resets the new chips to their factory defaults.  You only need to issue
  59. this command once, as the changes are written to the non-volatile memory.
  60.  
  61.              ++++++++++  COOLING DOWN YOUR SUPRA  ++++++++++
  62.  
  63. The following information was *not* supplied by Supra, but was taken
  64. from messages in the Hi-Speed Comm area on Exec-PC.
  65.  
  66. Due to the compact size of the Supra, the case and interior of the modem
  67. can get very warm.  If you place your modem in an area of restricted air 
  68. flow, you may want to remove the rear black plastic panel to aid in cooling.
  69. In addition, with this panel removed you may want to position the modem so
  70. the rear of the case is elevated.  This will help the heat dissipate through
  71. the opening in the rear.
  72.  
  73. For those who experience severe heating problems due to the modems placement,
  74. there is a file called SUPRAFAN.ZIP on Exec-PC which shows how to add a 
  75. cooling fan to the case of your modem.  (*Note that the modifications required
  76. to add this fan will void your warranty.  Also note that this is the design
  77. of an individual and is not provided or endorsed by Supra*)
