Patch for FalcCalc Version 2.0
This will update your copy of FalcCalc 2.0 to 2.01.
DO NOT APPLY THIS PATCH TO ANY OTHER VERSIONS!
What the patch does:
-Adds the ability for FalcCalc to properly load "The Pilot's
Edge" TSR for the Thrustmaster Flight Control Stick (FCS).
-Adds the ability to alter the manner in which Falcon 3.01 runs
from FalcCalc's "Utilities" menu.
We'll get to the details in a second, but first a word from our
sponsor:
--A NOTE ABOUT THE PATCH--
This patch is brought to you using the Quickfix System, a
shareware program-update utility available from:
R.Janorkar
651 Richmond Road,
Staten Island, NY 10304-2409
Support BBS (718) 876-0337
The software is $79, which is less than a third of the cost of
its commercial counterpart. If you are interested in Quickfix,
contact Mr. Janorkar (and please let him know you heard of
Quickfix through William White's "FalcCalc.")
Applying the Patch:
Simply unzip the FLCLPT.ZIP archive into your Falcon3
subdirectory and type PATCHFAL. I'll take it from there.
Unfortunately, when the patch is done, you'll find that the size
of your FalcCalc program has just about doubled! This is because
FalcCalc is normally a compressed executable, and for the patch
to work the file must be uncompressed.
To include the recompressor in this file would have cost another
12K of zip space, and I decided against that. You'll have to
live with the extra 100K or so on your hard disk until the next
version of FalcCalc (yes, it's in the works, so get those
enhancement suggestions in now!) or spend the time (and $$$) to
download the complete version of FalcCalc 2.01.
Using FalcCalc 2.01:
"Run Falcon 3.01" command:
Okay, here's the kludge!
To provide flexibilty in the shell function, FalcCalc now looks
for a file named "FALCCMD.SET" whenever the "Run Falcon 3.01"
menu option is selected. If it finds "FALCCMD.SET" it will
change the "CALL Falcon3" line of "FALCTEMP.BAT" to whatever is
in "FALCCMD.SET."
Here's the rub--you have to edit "FALCCMD.SET" by yourself. It
must be a straight ASCII file. (The DOS 5.0 EDIT command will do
this handily.) The command invoked by "FALCCMD.SET" can be a
batch file or any executable type file, but "FALCCMD.SET" itself
MUST BE ONLY ONE LINE!
For example, to use the "LH" command, "FALCCMD.SET" would be
simply
LH Falcon3
Using FalcCalc with the Pilot's Edge:
Included in the zip are the proper files, using the above method,
to run the Pilot's Edge with the "EDGEOFT2.COM" option, although
if "EDGEOFT2.COM" is not in the Falcon3 subdirectory you'll
either have to move it there or edit the "P_EDGE.BAT" file to
include its path.
In the next version of FalcCalc, all of this will be more
elegantly implemented, but for now, to keep the patch file as
small as possible, this is the best I can do.
I'd like to thank Victor Sacco for all his help, especially in
explaining what files "The Pilot's Edge" needs to run properly.
