The Orchid Fahrenheit Video Adapter provides the following utilities:
FMODE.EXE -- Is a program designed to help you select the Fahrenheit
video modes which are available for your configuration.
With FMODE, you can switch your Fahrenheit into one of the
many extended high resolution graphics and text modes. In
addition, your Fahrenheit supports the hardware emulation
of the video standards: MDA, HGC and CGA.
FDEMO.EXE -- FDEMO is a demo program that allows you to view the
enhanced VGA graphic modes of your Fahrenheit VA.
Additional Notes:
-----------------
To activate any of these programs, it is necessary to run the
programs from the directory in which they were installed. If
you accepted the default directory, the following example will work:
cd\fah_util <Enter>
Run the desired utility.
To avoid the need for a directory change, you may wish to add this
directory to your PATH statement located in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Installation:
This program will automatically install the Orchid Windows HyperDriver and
the Orchid Windows utility "ORCHID SETUP".
HelpUseWin: /* a label */
Using the Orchid Windows HyperDriver:
-------------------------------------
To configure the HyperDriver to display in a different resolution,
number of colors or menu font size use "ORCHID SETUP".
For Windows 3.1, "ORCHID SETUP" is located inside the Control Panel.
Select the Orchid Icon within the Windows Control Panel
to open the Orchid Setup Utility.
For Windows 3.0, "ORCHID SETUP" Icon is located on the Windows desktop.
Note: Windows 3.0 only runs in Standard and Enhanced Mode.
Configuring the Orchid Voice Notes Application and Sound Driver:
---------------------------------------------------------------_
The drivers and application will automatically be loaded into your
Windows 3.1 system files. When you enter Windows drag the Voice Note
Icon from its Group to your Windows Start-up Group. Restart Windows
to activate Voice Notes (Fahrenheit VA & Fahrneheit VA/VLB).
If a problem occures follow the manual installation listed below:
1. Select the Control Panel Icon under the Main Group.
2. Select the Drivers Icon under the Control Panel Group.
3. Select the ADD Button for additional drivers.
4. Select the "Orchid Fahrenheit VA" driver from the Menu.
5. Select "Current" drive already on system.
6. The Sound Driver has now been installed.
7. Drag the "Orchid Voice Notes" icon from the Orchid Voice Note
Group to your "Start-Up" Group.
You are now ready to restart Windows and the Orchid Voice Note
application will automatically start.
Norton Desktop for Windows Users:
---------------------------------
Due to the way Norton Desktop for Windows modifies the GRP
configuration, you will have to load the Windows applications
manually. Use the File Manager and drag the following EXE into
your Start-up Group:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ORCHNOTE.EXE
Please reference your Microsoft Manual for more information on how
to add Windows applications to a Window Group.
IMPORTANT!
----------
If you select either 1280 x 960 or 1024 x 768 resolution in configuring
the Orchid HyperDriver, please be sure your monitor can support these
extended modes. If your monitor does not support the above resolutions,
you will receive a scrambled display. If this happens, delete the ORCHID.INI
file from the Windows directory. Restart Windows and then rerun the Orchid
Setup utility to select a compatible resolution. If you are not sure if
your monitor can run these resolutions, we recommend the following actions:
1. Check the Fahrenheit switch settings
2. Check your monitor manual.
3. Contact your Dealer

CONFIGURATION:
The first time this driver is used, it will require the user to select which

that the driver will access for subsequent MicroStation sessions.
To permanently reconfigure the driver, DELETE the file

To change the resolution mode used, you may set the

Resolution/Colors
0 640 x 480 x 256
1 800 x 600 x 16
2 800 x 600 x 256
3 1024 x 768 x 16

MicroStation will now come up in 1024x768x256 colors.
If the driver finds a legal value in the environment, it will use it
to override any variable found in the configuration file.
To activate the changes, please reboot the system.
If the initialization code is unable to determine which mode to use, it
will always default to the 640 x 480 x 256 color mode.

LOADING THE DRIVER
Run the VersaCAD ENVIRO program, selecting the "Fahrenheit" screen driver.
You will be able to choose between "Single Screen" and "Dual Screen"
configuration,as well as various resolutions.
The VersaCAD driver file is a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program that
must be invoked each time your machine is powered up. For this reason, it is
recommended that you include the VersaCAD.COM file name in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
EMS MEMORY USAGE
As a default, this driver will reserve 512K of EMS memory when invoked. This
will be used to store the display lists needed for fast redraws. While this
should be enough memory to handle most drawings, additional EMS space may be
reserved once the driver has been loaded. This is done by setting the
environment variable 'VCAD_EMS=' to the number of EMS pages you wish to have
reserved. Each EMS page = 16K in size.
EXAMPLE:
'SET VCAD_EMS=64' will cause the driver to reserve 1024K (64 pages
* 16K) of memory when the driver is loaded.
'SET VCAD_EMS=0' will tell the driver not to reserve any EMS. In
this case, display list processing will be disabled.

Using the Ventura Publisher Driver:
To use the Ventura drivers, the startup batch file for

must be modified to read
DRVRMRGR filename %1 /S=SDGEMVP.VGA/M=01
Note: replace 'filename' with 'VP' or 'VPPROF' depending on the
name of your 'BATCH' file. The "M=" is in reference to the
mouse in your system. Do not change that option (M=1, M=2,
M=32, etc.).
You may modify the resolution by editing your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and
changing the following command. Note: This SET command is
automatically added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
"SET S31_911=<MODE>"
Where <MODE> is:
0 640x480, 256 colors

This option will create a diskette with a Playback only version of
VOICE NOTES, a Windows sound driver that doesn't require a sound card,
and an installer for both of these. You may provide this diskette to
your friends and associates, so that they can play Voice Notes embeded
in documents you send them. The sound driver will be installed only
if there is no hardware already installed that can play PCM format
sound.
The diskette has an installer program called INSTALL.EXE. Insert the
diskette in a floppy drive and type "INSTALL". The program will copy
the drivers and applications into your Windows subdirectory.
The Windows SYSTEM.INI file will be updated and the WAVE= statement
will be modified. If the system already has a sound card installed,
answer YES when the question is asked. Just enter Windows and use
the "RUN" command under the FILE option to activate the application.
1. Select "RUN"
2. Type "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OVNPLAY.EXE" and hit the <ENTER> Key.
