PLANPERFECT 5.1 README FILE 02/01/92
This file gives information regarding changes to the PlanPerfect
Program. Please read all information; if you have questions contact the
PlanPerfect Customer Support team at (800) 321-3248.
The following files have changed since the 02/21/91 interim release:
PL.EXE VGA512.FRS
PL.FIL EGA512.FRS
WP.DRS HRF6.FRS
WPSMALL.DRS ATI.VRS
INSTALL.EXE VIDEO7.VRS
ALTRNATE.PLK PL.MRS
ADVANCED FILE MACROS (02/21/91)
The {INPUT}message~ file macro command has been added. This command
prompts you with the "message," then pauses, to let you perform any
keystroke operation.
ATI.VRS (10/07/91)
Added support for the ATI VGA Wonder+ and VGA Wonder XL graphic cards
with 1 megabyte of memory to allow graphic resolutions of 1024x768 256
Color.
FORMAT CELL, COLUMN, OR WORKSHEET (02/21/91)
PlanPerfect will now let you enter a date with all periods as the date
separators.
GRAPH PRINT (02/21/91)
The Graph Print feature now uses the information in the Multiple Copies
Generated By (U) option of the Print Options screen when printing
multiple copies of a graph. When this option is set to Printer (2) it
can help increase the speed of printing multiple pages of a graph.
GRAPHS (02/21/91)
Hidden text can now be used for titles in a graph.
HELP (10/07/91)
When using a network, the user's network initials are now displayed
in the top right-hand corner of the initial help screen (F3).
INSTALLATION (02/21/91) In an installation of a GSS device, the Memory
Buffer (7) option has been added to the Select Color Device menu (from
the main menu Installation menu, select GSS Device (5), then select
Select Color Device (3)). This option lets you specify how much memory
you want to use as a print buffer for GSS printing, and, in some cases,
will greatly improve GSS printing speed.
KERN.TST (02/21/91)
The KERN.TST file has been added to help those who want to see how
characters are kerned in PlanPerfect. A cell macro has been added to the
file that prints the test file first unkerned, and then kerned.
LIST FILES (10/07/91)
Pressing the equal sign key (=) in List Files (F5) will now activate the
Name Search feature.
MACROS (10/07/91)
{SHELL ASSIGN} and {SHELL VARIABLE} macro commands have been added
to PlanPerfect. These new commands allow you to create and read from
shell variables from within PlanPerfect. You must have Shell 3.0 to
use them.
MESSAGES (02/21/91)
A number of changes have been made to the messages displayed in menus
and prompts including: Installation; Setup: Mouse Type; Print: Select
Printer; and Setup: Graphic Screen Drive.
SELECTING REGRAPH AFTER PRINTING A GRAPH (02/21/91)
When you print a graph, and then select Exit (F7) to go back to the
graph, and then you select Save (F10) before the graph is redrawn,
PlanPerfect will pause while you save the file. After you save the
file, the regular graph menu will be displayed, but the graph won't be
redrawn until you select Cancel (F1) and Regraph (Alt-F9,2). This is
necessary because the graph has been paused and PlanPerfect needs to be
manually told to redraw the graph.
SETUP (10/07/91)
The Format Retrieved Worksheets for Default Printer option (Shift-F1,4,8)
is now set to "Yes" for the default.
SH.MRS (02/21/91)
The SH.MRS file has been added so that you can create shell macros for
use with PlanPerfect.
USER-DEFINED FUNCTIONS (02/21/91)
PlanPerfect will now let you enter user-defined functions that are
recursive in nature.
VIDEO7.VRS (10/07/91)
PlanPerfect will now display a graphics mouse cursor with the Video 7 text
screen type.
Note: This new option will only work for text modes associated with the
VIDEO7.VRS file.
VIDEO DRIVERS (02/21/91)
A number of new video drivers have been made available to PlanPerfect
users. See the README.VRS file for details.
WIN30-PL.PIF (02/21/91)
A .PIF file has been added so that PlanPerfect can be run under Windows
3.0. See the README.PIF file for details.
WPCORP CHARACTERS (10/07/91)
The ability to view and print characters [8,207] (Iota Diaeresis), [8,208]
(Upsilon Diaeresis), and [8,209] (rho Rough) to PlanPerfect has been added.
PLANPERFECT 5.1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
TO INSTALL PLANPERFECT, INSERT THE LEARNING DISK INTO DRIVE A: AND ENTER
"INSTALL" FROM THE DOS PROMPT.
This will start the PlanPerfect Installation Program. From the
Installation menu, select option 1, Basic, to install the PlanPerfect
program to a directory called "\PL51" on your hard disk. If you are
installing to floppy disk drives or to a directory other than "\PL51",
choose option 2, Custom, from the Installation menu.
INSTALLING A PLOTTER OR COLOR PRINTER FOR PLANPERFECT
The PlanPerfect Installation Program includes an option that will
install the printer drivers for plotters or color printers that require
a GSS driver. The README.GSS file on the PlanPerfect GSS Drivers
diskette contains complete information about installing a plotter or GSS
output device.
AUTOMATIC FILE BACKUP
The default program settings for PlanPerfect now include automatic file
backup. This ensures that you will not lose your file in the case of a
power failure or computer problem. However, it does not eliminate the
need to make backup copies of your worksheet. If you do not want
PlanPerfect to backup your files, or if you want to choose a different
backup interval, choose the Environment option from the Setup menu, and
select option 1, Backup Options.
ADDITIONAL GRAPHIC FONTS DISKETTE
You can order an additional diskette (the GRAPHIC FONTS 1 diskette for
PlanPerfect) that includes a larger version of the WP.DRS file. This is
the same WP.DRS file that is shipped with DrawPerfect 1.1. Once this
file is installed in your PlanPerfect directory, you can select from
over 25 graphic fonts when defining the titles and text for graphs. For
information on ordering this diskette, call the WordPerfect Orders
Department at 1-800-321-4566.
RUNNING THE SHELL PROGRAM ON A NETWORK
When you start the Shell program, it looks for certain files to
determine whether it is being run on a network. If these files are not
found, the Shell is configured for a stand-alone computer. The Shell
program shipped with PlanPerfect is not initially configured for a
network, but you can set up your system so that it will work within that
environment.
You can add the SET WPC command to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or use a Shell
startup option to pass information from the network to the Shell
program. Either method allows the Shell to communicate with your
network software.
Starting with the SET WPC command
If a network is detected when the Shell program is installed, the
program will create a Shell information file called XXXSHELL.FIL. XXX
represents the user's three-character File I.D. (in contrast, SHELL.FIL
is the file name for the non- network Shell information file).
If Shell does not detect a network, you can add the SET WPC command to
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to start the Shell for a network. Here is an
example of the command:
SET WPC=/u-XXX/nt-Y
XXX stands for the user's File I.D., which is usually the user's
initials. Y stands for a number that represents the type of network
software. For example, assume your user's I.D. is "LBN" and you are
running on Novell Netware. This is the SET WPC command that you would
need to add to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
SET WPC=/u-lbn/nt-1
In this example, the number 1 represents Novell Netware. If you are
using a different network software, the following chart shows the number
you should type in the command:
1 = Novell Netware 8 = LANtastic
2 = Banyan Vines 9 = AT&T StarGROUP
3 = TOPS Network 0 = Other
4 = IBM LAN Network A = DEC PCSA
5 = NOKIA PC-Net B = 3Com 3+ Open
6 = 3Com 3+ C = StreetTalk
7 = 10Net
If you aren't sure which network you are running, choose 0 for
"Other," and the Shell should still work with your software. If your
network supports login scripts, you can put the SET WPC command in your
login script, instead of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Starting with the /NT Startup Option
You can also force the Shell program to create a network- specific
SHELL.FIL file by naming the file when the Shell is loaded. To do so,
start the Shell program from the DOS prompt, with the following command:
SHELL.EXE /nt-Y/u-XXX XXXSHELL.FIL
Both cases of XXX should be replaced with the user's File I.D., and Y
should be replaced with the number which represents your network (see
the chart above). For example, if your user File I.D. is "LBN" and you
are running Novell Netware, you can start the Shell program with this
command:
SHELL.EXE /nt-1/u-lbn lbnshell.fil
If you do not include the /u parameter in the startup command, the /nt
startup option will prompt you for your File I.D.
