USING NTWIN.EXE WITH OFFICE-PC 3.1
==================================
NTWIN.EXE is useful for Office PC users in that it provides basic
DOS Calendar alarm notification in the Windows environment.
The files NTWIN.EXE and WPNTUS.HLP included in this zip file are
copies of the same files currently shipping with WordPerfect Mail
for Windows in the Office 3.1 LAN package. Not included in this zip
file but needed in order for NTWIN to run are the 1.1 version or
greater of the WPCORP Products Shared Program and Shared Utilities
files dated 3-10-92 or later. The needed Shared Products files are
currently shipping with WPMAIL and in the WordPerfect 5.1 for
Windows interim release.
NTWIN was developed for the OFFICE LAN installation in mind so using
it with OFFICE PC could produce a few results that would not be seen
in a network environment. One would be a dialog that pops up every
time NTWIN is started that says: "USERID.FIL not found -
notification not active. Would you like to continue?" At this point
you should Click on [Yes] or press enter to continue. NTWIN will
start and appear minimized on the desktop. Double Clicking on the
WPNotify icon will restore NTWIN to a window and you will notice
another oddity. On the title bar of NTWIN you will see: "WPNotify -
Unknown:Unknown" the words "Unknown" would normally reference a
mail host name and user name. But since NTWIN cannot find the
USERID.FIL file generated for the OFFICE LAN version the title bar
reflects the information that it can not find as Unknown.
=================
INSTALLING NTWIN
=================
NTWIN.EXE, it's help file WPNTUS.HLP and tune/setup file
WPNT___.INI, should be copied to the WordPerfect Shared Code
directory eg. C:\WPC. This directory holds other files that
NTWIN.EXE need in order to run. Then from within Windows Program
Manager open the Group you wish to start WPNotify from, select FILE
| NEW | PROGRAM ITEM | OK | and type C:\WPC\NTWIN.EXE in the
Command Line: field and click on OK. NTWIN.EXE can also be added to
the load= or run= line in the Windows 3.0/3.1 WIN.INI (eg.
load=clock.exe c:\wpc\ntwin.exe) file so it starts each time
Windows is loaded. It can also be added to the StartUp group found
in the Windows 3.1. Program Manager desktop.

CALENDAR ALARMS
================
In order for NTWIN to display and notify you of DOS Calendar alarms
3 things must be done:
1) CL.EXE must be started with the /WIN startup option. This option
creates a CALENDAR.ALR file in the same directory as the
CALENDAR.FIL file. This file holds the alarm times that NTWIN.EXE
reads and uses to display the alarms. Both the CL30.PIF and
CL-W30.PIF files have this option added to the options field, so
running Calendar from within windows using .pif files to start CL
will result in the proper setup of alarms.
2) If CL/I has been added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file you should also
add the /WIN option to it. eg. CL/I/WIN, to update the .ALR file
each time you reboot or turn on your machine. If you plan on
working just in windows alone or if you continue to hear the beep
of the DOS calendar alarm while you are in windows you may wish not
to load the DOS alarm module. The alarm module is a TSR that
calendar uses to pop up and sound alarms at DOS. To disable the DOS
notification alarm beep and popup add the /N option to the command
line with the other options. (eg. CL/I/WIN/N OR CL/WIN/N) (See
startup options for Calendar in you reference manual).
3) In NTWIN you will need to specify the drive and path to the
CALENDAR.ALR file. This is done by selecting OPTIONS | DOS CALENDAR
and typing the path to the CALENDAR.ALR file. (Note: the
CALENDAR.ALR file is created in the same directory as the
CALENDAR.FIL file. CL with the /WIN option must be run in order for
the file to be created.) Make sure an X appears in the Check box
for Enable DOS Calendar Alarms. After this is done NTWIN will poll
the CALENDAR.ALR file for Calendar events found in it. The
CALENDAR.ALR file is updated each time CL is run with the /WIN
option or CL/I/WIN is run. If the /WIN option is not used when
running CL the alarms will not function properly and NTWIN will not
notify you of the alarms you set.

feature found under the Help menu in NTWIN.
