  25.     COMPRODINE, PART TWO

  27.      One of the nicest features of
  28.  JIFFY CARD ($15) its single-sheet
  29.  manual.  This includes pictures of
  30.  its 68 graphics along with a sample
  31.  of a card itself.  The rest of the
  32.  manual serves as a quick reference
  33.  sheet.  It's simple, direct, easy.
  34.  No 40-page tutorials; no heavy-duty
  35.  programming knowledge required.  All
  36.  you need is one drive, 32K, and a
  37.  printer: a neat, compact, delightful
  38.  piece of software that does exactly
  39.  what it's supposed to quickly and
  40.  well.
  41.  
  42.      JC takes about a minute to load
  43.  from XB, but, once loaded, all
  44.  borders, large fonts, and small fonts
  45.  are awaiting your keypress.  There
  46.  are 8 prompts for you to follow
  47.  step-by-step with active keys listed
  48.  on screen at all times, so you are
  49.  gently guided through all your
  50.  creations.  You first set up a
  51.  location for your card-cover
  52.  graphics; then you type the title and
  53.  select a border by tapping the
  54.  spacebar to cycle through.  Next you
  55.  choose the ONE graphic to be placed
  56.  in those areas you designated in Step
  57.  One.  This same graphic may even be
  58.  overlapped in repetition.
  59.  
  60.      Text is now entered.  Say what
  61.  you want to say.  Next do the same
  62.  for the inside of the card.  Then
  63.  choose one of 7 small fonts for the
  64.  front and again for the inside.  It's
  65.  fairly easy to toggle between the
  66.  different parts of the card to make
  67.  changes.  Finally, you may print the
  68.  card.  Before you do, though, you may
  69.  opt to SAVE it for posterity, as
  70.  previously made cards my be LOADed
  71.  quickly and modified easily.
  72.  Basically, that's it.
  73.  
  74.     For TI owners who wonder how the
  75.  fun went out of computing, this is a
  76.  program to get it back.  In the three
  77.  weeks I've had JIFFY CARD, I've
  78.  already used it over a dozen times.
  79.  
  80.     Now I wish I had spent a few more
  81.  dollars to buy the color version of
  82.  my NX1000 printer, because there is
  83.  also COLOR CARD ($25), the
  84.  mouth-watering color version of JC.
  85.  Both versions come with a template
  86.  for xeroxing or just cutting
  87.  exact-size envelopes for these cards.
  88.  A thoughtful touch, that.  CARDS 4ALL
  89.  OCCASIONS ($10) is an "as is" or
  90.  easily personalized collection of
  91.  spiffy cards for easy JC loading.
  92.  
  93.     Once you've mastered JIFFY CARD,
  94.  you should find JIFFY FLYER ($10) or
  95.  COLOR FLYER ($20) a piece of cake.
  96.  The commands are very similar for the
  97.  making of an easy to read, easy to
  98.  create, eye-catching one-pager for
  99.  yard sales, announcements,
  100.  pronouncement, mini-posters,
  101.  whatever.  These programs also use
  102.  the same (CSGD) graphics which can be
  103.  imported from everywhere or purchased
  104.  in a maximum diskful (127 pictures)
  105.  for $10 (CSGD GRAPHICS).  A 50-file
  106.  collection of borders and fonts may
  107.  also be purchased for $10 (CARD/FLYER
  108.  GRAPHICS).  It's this sort of
  109.  companion support that makes these
  110.  inexpensive JIFFY programs even more
  111.  valuable. That's why so many people
  112.  are happy that COMPRODINE is also
  113.  distributing Great Lakes Software (at
  114.  an incredibly low $10 for each item):
  115.  JOYPAINT 99, PAL, CLIPART DISK (which
  116.  is a nice trio); CERTIFICATE 99,
  117.  COMPANIONs 1 && 2, GRAPHIC COMPANION
  118.  (which is a nice quartet).  JOYPAINT
  119.  is an excellent artist program,
  120.  particularly with the PAL.
  121.  CERTIFICATE 99 is, to date, the state
  122.  of the art certificate maker for the
  123.  TI.  The support material for both
  124.  programs make them extremely valuable
  125.  tools (toys) for any owner.
  126.  
  127.      BANNERS 99 and EXTENDED BUSINESS
  128.  GRAPHS are the other two Great Lakes
  129.  products distributed by COMPRODINE.
  130.  
  131.      However, they have many more of
  132.  their own products.  PICTURE IT ($10)
  133.  and PRINT IT && PLUS ($13) convert
  134.  instances to banners, to Funnelweb,
  135.  or to Extended BASIC for printing
  136.  through your Writer files; prints
  137.  incredibly professional disk
  138.  catalogs, titles, labels, with
  139.  excellent user-designed materials,
  140.  including sprites.
  141.  
  142.      BINGO (just $5) not only lets you
  143.  play two screen boards but allows the
  144.  printing out of boards for everyone.
  145.  Good graphics and speech.  FORMSHOP
  146.  ($15) permits very flexible creation
  147.  of forms for business, hobby, or
  148.  personal use with the same ease as
  149.  the JIFFY programs.
  150.  
  151.      If you've gone to a TI fair
  152.  recently and looked up at a gigantic
  153.  computer-made poster, it was done
  154.  with GIANT ARTIST POSTERS ($15) which
  155.  lets you takeanyTI-ARTIST screen,
  156.  whether acquired or created, and
  157.  print it out in sizes from 10 by 14
  158.  inches to 5 by 8 feet! For these
  159.  king-size jobbies I would recommend
  160.  printing it out just before you go to
  161.  bed and pull it off in the morning.
  162.  Although the program works very fast
  163.  (and easy), printing anything that
  164.  size takes a considerable time.
  165.  
  166.      COMPRODINE also publishes a neat,
  167.  professional date-tracking electronic
  168.  calendar with lots of features.
  169.  Similar to SCHEDULE MANAGER (Asgard)
  170.  and REMIND ME (Genial), REMINDERS
  171.  helps you to organize your life in
  172.  positive, realistic ways.  A good buy
  173.  at just $10.
  174.  
  175.      But the new gem of the COMPRODINE
  176.  treasure chest of software goodies is
  177.  ARTIST PRINT SHOP.  Written by Paul
  178.  Coleman in fast and comfortable c99,
  179.  this program uses TI-ARTIST graphics
  180.  and fonts without conversion.  So you
  181.  could draw from the thousands of
  182.  files already in user-group
  183.  libraries, hidden in BBS listings, or
  184.  ordered from commercial sources; or
  185.  you could create your own in
  186.  TI-ARTIST and use them directly.
  187.  
  188.      Basically, the 3-disk package
  189.  ($25 - and an additional $10 for the
  190.  not-required [but recommended] BORDER
  191.  MAKER package) permits the creation
  192.  of very dramatic signs, letterheads,
  193.  banners, and flyers.
  194.  
  195.      Follow the 18-page manual through
  196.  one full time, performing each of the
  197.  easy tasks, and you will be
  198.  immediately comfortable with all of
  199.  the sections, as they have a very
  200.  similar structure.  After a couple
  201.  creations the manual is no longer
  202.  necessary.  I used it only two days
  203.  before I gave an hour-long demo of
  204.  all its sections at the recent New
  205.  England Fayuh.  Most of you would
  206.  have only needed two hours, but I
  207.  tend to play with things for a while
  208.  BEFORE using the manuals.  My sisters
  209.  Sonia and Pat both claim I was
  210.  dropped on my head numerous times as
  211.  a baby.  In any event APS is an
  212.  easy-to-use even for me type of
  213.  program.  And varied and useful and
  214.  fun.

  216.      The BANNERS section of this large
  217.  piece of electronic wizardry is one
  218.  of the most flexible I have ever
  219.  used.  It provides both text and
  220.  graphic options rarely seen on most
  221.  banner programs.
  222.  
  223.      The SIGNMAKER makes very dramatic
  224.  signs, flyers, pages using a large
  225.  and a small ARTIST font and 5
  226.  different graphics which can be
  227.  mirrored, magnified, and/or
  228.  multiplied for all kinds of flexible
  229.  creations.
  230.  
  231.      The STATIONERY portion also
  232.  offers some great flexibility with
  233.  some exceptional results.
  234.  
  235.      In short, ARTIST PRINT SHOP would
  236.  be a nice addition to your
  237.  collection of super TI programs.
  238.  
  239.      Your best bet would be to write
