  8. NO!! If you are an applications writer you need to know the location
  9. of some things. Eg you you want to run a program securely (ie without
  10. relying on $PATH to find it for you), you have to know where to find it
  11. (to within a couple of guesses).

  13. Also if you are writing install mechanisms, you often need to know how to
  14. find things, where to put things (don't rely on the installing user to
  15. tell you where they should go, they might not even understand the
  16. question).
