- HANDLING PRINTER MARKERS
-
- For your printer to know where you want to turn bolding or italics, or
- underlining etc. on and off, special characters must be sent to the
- printer at the appropriate locations. These special characters are
- described in the help file ESC_CODE. Here, we will describe how to
- tell the printer WHERE to turn these features on and off.
-
- F3 is used for all Printer Marking functions. Room has been made
- available for 12 Printer Marking functions. It has been assumed that
- these 12 will consist of 6 pairs, one for on and the other for off.
- For example, AFTER PRESSING F3, F1 will turn bolding on, and Shift F1
- will turn bolding off. These markers will appear in your text with
- different colors or attributes depending upon how you set them (see
- ESC_CODE).
-
- Additional functions are provided with F3 to delete and find markers.
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- As an example, move the cursor to the asterisk here (*) and press F3.
- Turn bolding on by pressing F1. Now move the cursor here (*) and turn
- bolding off by pressing F3 and then Shift F1. The two asterisks
- should be visible on your screen with different colors or attributes
- from the rest of the text.
-
- Before doing the following instruction, note that you will have to
- press the PgDn key to get back to these instructions. Press Ctrl Home
- to move the cursor to the upper left corner of your screen, press F3,
- and then press F7 to find the Next Print Marker in your text. Notice
- that the Message Line below reads BOLD ON. Not only does PC-TYPE+
- move the cursor to the next marker, it also tells you what type of
- marker it is.
-
- If this file were printed, special characters would be sent to your
- printer before printing the first asterisk, and after printing the
- 2nd asterisk.
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- You may, if you wish, place more than one marker on a character. On
- the asterisk here, (*), press F3 and F1 to turn bold on, and then
- press F3 and F2 to turn underlining on. Only the last marker is
- visible. Press F3 again, and your message line will show that the
- printer markers are both present.
-
- Sometimes when you reformat a paragraph, these markers may shift
- slightly if they are placed on spaces, but this is normal and they are
- not lost.
-
- F8, F9 and F10 are used to remove these markers - F8 removes one
- marker under the cursor, F9 removes all markers on a line, and F10
- will remove all markers from the text. Try it by pressing F3 followed
- by F10. All the markers will disappear. Notice the warning message
- requesting verification - this is to ensure that you do not
- accidentally remove all the markers when you did not mean to.
-
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- In the interest of superior performance, PC-TYPE+ was designed in such
- a way that dictated that a pre-specified number of Print Markers may
- be placed on a line. This number may be modified by changing the
- default setting. The default sent to you allows 6 print markers per
- line. If you press F8 and then F2 you will see the default setting
- menu. The entry on this menu which says "Line Attributes" is the
- location where this parameter may be changed.
-
- However, before this change will become effective, you must first save
- the defaults, exit PC-TYPE+, and then re-enter. Under most
- circumstances, 6 markers per line should be adequate.
