  31. Problem: Copying, cutting or pasting using the clipboard is                     
  32.          slow with Windows Applications.  This is                               
  33.          particulary noticable in MS Excel and other                            
  34.          Windows applications.                                                  
  35. .                                                                               
  36. Answer:  Most applications that copy information to the                         
  37.          clipboard copy data in multiple formats.  In the                       
  38.          case of Excel, 16 different formats.  When the                         
  39.          Windows clipboard is public, the computer must do                      
  40.          additional conversion of data to the OS2 clipboard                     
  41.          The solution to this is that if the customer can                       
  42.          make the Windows clipboard private, the speed of                       
  43.          cutting and pasting will be similar to that of                         
  44.          DOS/Windows.  The only problem with this is that                       
  45.          anything copied from the Windows session cannot be                     
  46.          pasted to OS2 unless clipboard data is exported and                    
  47.          when trying to paste data copied from an OS2                           
  48.          session, another WINOS2 session or a DOS Session,                      
  49.          data must be imported.  The only way to make a                         
  50.          WINOS2 seamless session private is to make a                           
  51.          permanent change removing 3 ";clipbrd" statements                      
  52.          from the WINOS2 SYSTEM.INI file.                                       
  53.          The performance issue is being addressed.  This                        
  54.          will be made available at a undetermined future                        
  55.          date.                                                                  
  56. Problem: Graphics copied to clipboard from OS2 cannot be                        
  57.          copied to a Windows application or graphics copied                     
  58.          to the WINOS2 clipboard from a Windows application                     
  59.          cannot be copied to an OS2 application.                                
  60. .                                                                               
  61. Answer:  This is normally a lack in about 50% of Windows                        
  62.          applications.  Older Windows applications only                         
  63.          support DDBs (Device Dependent Bitmaps), while OS2                     
  64.          always creates or uses DIBs (Device Independent                        
  65.          Bitmaps).  Since the format of DDBs and DIBs are                       
  66.          different, Windows applications that only support                      
  67.          DDBs can have problems in copying data to and from                     
  68.          the public clipboard.  Because some Windows                            
  69.          applications may handle other formats than DDBs,                       
  70.          all Windows applications that do not handle DIBs                       
  71.          may not exhibit this problem.

  73. Problem: DDE  or OLE does not work correctly for Windows                        
  74.          applications under WINOS2.                                             
  75. .                                                                               
  76. Answer:  Some Windows applications use special Windows 3.1                      
  77.          DLL (Dynamic link library) for DDE and OLE.  These                     
  78.          DLLs are backward compatible to Windows 3.0 and                        
  79.          WINOS2.  Make sure that DDEML.DLL, OLECLI.DLL, and                     
  80.          OLESRV.DLL are in the  OS2 MDOS WINOS2 directory or                    
  81.          in the path.  If you installed OS/2-2.0 on top of                      
  82.          DOS/Windows, these files may be in the old                             
  83.          directory.  Otherwise, they normally can be copied                     
  84.          from the installation disks of the Windows                             
  85.          application that experienced the problem.                              
  86.          For applications where DDE worked for DOS/WINDOWS,                     
  87.          they should also work correctly under WINOS2.  Some                    
  88.          Windows applications did not support DDE very well,                    
  89.          therefore if you are experiencing DDE problems with                    
  90.          a specific application, call the application                           
  91.          company regarding DDE Support.

  93. Problem: OLE does not work between OS2 applications and                         
  94.          WINOS2.                                                                
  95. .                                                                               
  96. Answer:  OLE is not supported under Presentation Manager.                       
  97.          Therefore, OLE will not work outside WINOS2.

  99. Problem: OS2 Clipboard does not recognize data that may be                      
  100.          in private formats.

  102. Answer:  Even though the clipboard does not display or show                     
  103.          data being available in the OS2 clipboard, it may                      
  104.          be available to applications that support that                         
  105.          private format.
