  1. OSINSNIF - NO PROMPT FOR MS-WINDOWS DISKETTES/NO WIN-OS/2 SUPPORT

  12. SYMPTOMS:
  13.  
  14. If installing OS/2 for Windows and one of the following occur:
  15.  
  16.   1.  No error stating that Windows is NOT on the system
  17.  
  18.   2.  No prompt for Windows diskettes during install
  19.  
  20.   3.  Install completes and there's no WIN-OS/2 support - it
  21.       won't start
  22.  
  23.   4.  No option for install of WIN-OS/2 support is available in
  24.       Selective Install.
  25.  
  26. RESOLUTION:
  27.  
  28.   1.  WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, PROGMAN.INI and CONTROL.INI need to
  29.       be restored.
  30.  
  31.   2.  Run Selective Install.
  32.  
  33. PROCEDURES:
  34.  
  35.   1.  Open an OS/2 Window on the desktop.
  36.  
  37.   2.  Change to the Windows directory.  Type:
  38.  
  39.        X: CD WINDOWS    and press Enter.
  40.  
  41.       X is the drive where Windows is located
  42.  
  43.   3.  Edit the WIN.INI file, type:
  44.  
  45.        E WIN.INI   and press Enter.
  46.  
  47.   4.  If the message Embedded Null Characters is returned,
  48.       select Continue Loading File.
  49.  
  50.   5.  Make sure the following section headings are present:
  51.  
  52.         [Windows]
  53.         [Desktop]
  54.  
  55.  
  56.   6.  If the headings are present, save the file.
  57.  
  58.       If no file type is selected for saving a file in the
  59.       editor, select Type, then Plain Text, then Set.
  60.  
  61.       If the headings are missing, restore WIN.INI from a backup
  62.       diskette or system, or unpack it from the Windows diskette.
  63.  
  64.   7.  Edit the SYSTEM.INI file, type:
  65.  
  66.         E SYSTEM.INI  and press Enter
  67.  
  68.   8.  Repeat steps 5 - 7 looking for:
  69.  
  70.         [Boot]
  71.  
  72.         [Keyboard]
  73.  
  74.   9. Edit PROGRAM.INI.  Type:
  75.  
  76.        E PROGRAM.INI
  77.  
  78.  10. Repeat steps 5 - 7, looking for:
  79.  
  80.         [Settings]
  81.  
  82.         [Groups]
  83.  
  84.  11. Edit CONTROL.INI.  Type:

  86.         E CONTROL.INI

  89.  12. Repeat steps 5 - 7, looking for:

  91.         [Current]

  93.         [ColorSchemes]

  95.  13. When all the files are saved, exit the editor and
  96.      OS/2 Window.
  97.  
  98.  14. Go to OS/2 System, select System Setup, then Selective
  99.      Install.
  100.  
  101.  15. Select OK at System Configuration screen.
  102.  
  103.  16. Selective Install of WIN-OS/2 support should be
  104.      available.
  105.  
  106.  17. Complete Selective Install of WIN-OS/2 support,
  107.      selecting only Configure current desktop at Advanced
  108.      Options screen.
