Other systems
Although PCs are generally associated with MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows,
there are several other operating systems that can be used on PC
hardware, including IBM's OS/2 and several variants of Unix.
This section provides information about many of these operating systems.

powerful shareware replacement for the standard DOS command line shell
(COMMAND.COM) from JP Software.
An essential utility for anyone who uses the command line a lot.

| OpenDOS 7.01
is a free version of DOS from
Caldera. Formerly
DR-DOS from Digital Research, this briefly became Novell DOS
when Novell bought out Digital Research, and has since been
released as a free product when Caldera acquired the rights
from Novell during a retrenchment exercise on Novell's part.
The source code to OpenDOS is also available at
Caldera's website.

is an ongoing project to produce a Microsoft-free clone of MS-DOS,
including freely available source code. There is an alternate site
in Spain.
