FreeMem Professional
URL: www.hotfiles.com
Registered price: $25
Rating: When you close down your applications, DLLs tend to stay in memory,
leaving less memory for Windows 95 to use. This forces use of the swap file and consequent
performance slow-downs. FreeMem works either automatically or manually, ensuring that when
you close down an application, all associated files are closed as well. You can set
FreeMem to free up RAM when it falls below a point you've chosen. FreeMem can also
automatically free up memory which is allocated through programming errors in
applications, loaded by large DLLs, held in the cache, as well as memory which is used by
background processes.

FreeMem Professional will improve your system by winning back memory. |
Mini Clipboard
URL: www.winfiles.com
Registered price: $25
Rating: Mini Clipboard is a clipboard enhancer you'll want if you do a lot of
online work. Not only does it have the usual clip features -- a number of clipboards, save
to file etc -- but it includes great Internet functionality. Its Internet buttons let you
automatically browse, e-mail, FTP or Telnet to sites using your default Internet software.
The Internet buttons are simple to use. For example, the 'Browse' button searches the
selected clip box for the first 'http' or 'www' address and opens it.

NTFSDOS
URL: http://www.ntinternals.com/ntfs20.htm.
Freeware NTFSDOS version 2.0R+ gives DOS x-ray
eyes. Its core program, ntfsdos.exe, searches out all your NTFS drives, mounts them
(assigns a drive letter) and makes them look like standard FAT drives. The only downside
is that the x-rayed NTFS drives are read-only. In Windows 95, NTFSDOS uses companion
device driver ntfshlp.vxd to display long filenames for an NTFS partition. To ensure
NTFSDOS can find the driver, it's best to have ntfshlp.vxd and ntfsdos.exe in the same
folder. NTFSDOS needs DOS 5.0 or later and about 125Kb of conventional RAM, and is
available from http://www.ntinternals.com/ntfs20.htm.
|

The NTFS partition (drive E:) isn't visible from
DOS until after ntfsdos.exe is run. The directory listing for Windows 95 DOS shown gives
both long and short filenames.

In Windows 95, NTFSDOS uses companion device
driver ntfshlp.vxd to display long filenames (at cursor) for the NTFS partition of Figure
1a. To ensure NTFSDOS can find the driver, it's best to have ntfshlp.vxd and ntfsdos.exe
in the same folder. (All the filenames beginning with $ are for temporary hidden files
created by NTFSDOS.)
