The GIMP 2.2
Photoshop is the undisputed leader in image editing, but you have
to pay a hefty premium. However, there is an alternative: the GIMP,
one of the growing number of good (and free) open source programs.
It has an unusual interface but it's quite easy to learn and surprisingly
powerful. Helen Bradley covers The GIMP. In her regular photo-editing
tutorial. Note that you need to install the GTK+ 2 for Windows runtime
environment before installing the GIMP itself.
