Offline Reading and Composing

Once you have Outlook Express News configured for your news servers (see Help for detailed instructions), you can download as many headers (message titles, authors, etc.), messages, or newsgroups as you like. To save time online, you may want to download just the headers and then decide what's really interesting.

Here's how it works...

Offline News reading Once you've download a list of message headers, click the Disconnect button on the toolbar and start browsing the headers. When you see something of interest, just select it. To select more than one item, hold down the CTRL key and click as many items as you like.

To schedule these items for a full download, point to Offline on the Tools menu, then click Mark for Retrieval. Notice than you can choose to download the messages or the messages and any message threads that might go with them.

When you're ready to download the messages and threads, just click Connect on the Outlook Express News toolbar.

Tip: You can mark messages in several different newsgroups before you click Connect, as long as you are receiving the messages via the same connection (Internet service provider or LAN connection).
