Free subscriptions bring content straight to the desktop

Setting up a site subscription is a no-fee, hassle-free way to keep current on information—even when you're not online. Site subscriptions—a key feature in Internet Explorer 4.0—save you tons of time by downloading your favorite Web sites when they change so you don't have to keep checking them.

It doesn't matter whether you have five favorite sites or 20. Internet Explorer 4.0's built-in Web crawling agent regularly monitors all your favorite Web sites for changes and notifies you when one of them has been updated.

By downloading the sites onto your computer, subscriptions make it easy for you to take your favorite sites with you on the road, without having to "get connected." They also make better use of connect time, saving you money and allowing your computer to download sites during off-peak hours when reliability is better.

How does it work?

Setting up a site subscription is easier than having a daily newspaper delivered to your doorstep. The process is simple:

  1. Once you install Internet Explorer 4.0, you can subscribe to a site any time you add a favorite, and specify how frequently you want the site checked.
  2. According to the schedule you specify, Internet Explorer 4.0 dials up sites to determine if information has changed. Then it delivers only this new information to your desktop.
  3. Once the new information has been received, you'll be notified—a red "gleam" next to the link lets you know the site has changed—at which time you can either view the site online, or "unplug" and view the information offline for convenience or to save on Internet connection fees.
