Welcome to the TaxCalc tax document. This window is where you enter and store your tax information.

The tax document window is divided into two parts - on the left hand side is the Navigator to help you move around the sections of the document with as few mouse clicks as possible. As you move around the Navigator clicking on different sections you will see different screen forms appear on the right hand side of the window. These screen forms are where you should enter your details.
 

  • You should enter your personal details and the details on the front of your tax return in the Personal Details section.
  • Income that you received in the tax year should be entered in the Income section.
  • Outgoings that may be liable for tax relief should be entered in the Reliefs section.
  • To claim any tax allowances to which you are entitled, enter the information requested in the Allowances section.
  • If you made any capital gains during the tax year, you should enter the details in the Capital Gains section.
  • Other important information such as details of tax you have already paid and information relating to claiming tax repayments you may be due should be entered in the Other Information section.

If you're not sure what to enter in a particular box, press F1. For background tax information and tax tips, click the Tax Guide button.

In most cases you need enter only total amounts but TaxCalc has a number of mini-calculations to help you calculate the totals. To access these, click where you see this button:

In addition, you can move between pages by clicking on the arrow buttons at the top left of this window. The first time you use TaxCalc we suggest that you use these arrows to view all the screens, to ensure that you enter all the information needed.

Further down the Navigator you will see the Review section. In this section, Messages shows you any warnings or hints about your tax return and the Tax Summary gives you a summary of your tax liability and details of how the liability was arrived at. You can print these out too.

After the Review section you will see the Inland Revenue Forms section.  This is where you can see your information as it will appear on the forms when you print it out. TaxCalc Lite includes the personal tax return and the supplementary pages you need if you have income from employment, self-employment or share schemes.
