I subscribe to (and recommend) three major ezines that cover heavy metal. Those magazines are SFK (edited by Kurt Torster), OUAS (edited by Wes Royer), and Detritus (edited by Tim Wadzinski). SFK was originally founded as an AOR zine, but there still is metal coverage in every issue. Visit the website to subscribe. New issues come out every week on Monday.
I am the coeditor for OUAS. We cover hard rock and heavy metal, but also venture into alternative and pop -- basically anything that's good. Issues are published monthly on the web. You can always read the latest issue at the Open Up And Say homepage.
Last but not least, Detritus is a weekly email zine that covers metal... and only metal! My good buddy Tim Wadzinksi runs this SFK offshoot, and you can also find my reviews in there from time to time. All serious metalheads need to subscribe to Detritus.
Additionally, I subscribe to a number of other cool zines/lists. Here's some information on how to join up if they sound interesting.
The 80's Metal List is great for discussions about everything pertaining to 80's Metal bands, from new releases to bargain bin gems.
To subscribe, send an email message to majordomo@lists.org that says SUBSCRIBE 80s-METAL in the
message body. No subject is necessary, and don't type anything but
SUBSCRIBE 80s-METAL
Breaking The Chains is a zine dedicated to Dokken and Lynch Mob. Visit the dokken.net website to subscribe.
Headbanger's Delight is a cool newsletter that comes out every week, chock full of news. You can subscribe at their webpage. Well, at least it's supposed to come out weekly, it's been sporadic lately.
The National Midnight Star is on of the oldest lists on the internet, and covers all things Rush. Large digest issues are sent out 2-5 times each week. (Note: TNMS is currently on hiatus... I have no idea why. I haven't received a new issue since March).
To subscribe, email rush-mgr@syrinx.umd.edu.
